Frank Castle is back for the second season of The Punisher, a Netflix and Marvel series that again promises plenty of action.
Former marine-turned-vigilante Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) has been living a quiet life on the road until he suddenly becomes embroiled in the attempted murder of a young girl (Giorgia Whigham). As he is drawn into the mystery surrounding her and those in pursuit of the information she holds, Castle attracts a new target on his back as new and old enemies force him to confront whether he should accept his destiny and embrace a life as The Punisher.
That young girl, a new character called Amy Bendix, is played by Giorgia Whigham. Executive producer Jeph Loeb sets up who she is when she happens to meet Frank at a roadside bar. “Amy is a young woman who is in trouble and thinks she can handle it. She couldn’t be more wrong,” he explains. “In many ways, it’s the arrogance of youth versus the arrogance of Frank. There’s a great deal of humour and honesty in that relationship and a big part of that comes from Amy’s ability to tap into Frank’s vulnerability. He’s not just a two-dimensional killing machine. He’s got problems.”
This season, Frank Castle finds himself fighting battles on a number of fronts and one of those is living with the knowledge that Billy Russo could hurt someone again. Returning to the role of Russo this season is Ben Barnes, who enjoyed finding his character entirely changed. “I saw season two as a completely clean slate for Billy in a lot of ways,” Barnes says. “His conscience has been wiped clear which was the exact opposite intent of Frank’s merciless treatment of him in the finale of the first season. Frank wanted to leave him with his conscience intact so that he had to live with the shame and guilt of what he’d done. He’d led such a narcissistic, ego-driven, maniacal lifestyle, but we start to see that there’s also an element of psychopathy to this man.”
The series introduces three new antagonists intent on causing problems for Frank Castle joining Marvel’s The Punisher this season. Anderson Schultz, played by Corbin Bernsen and his wife Eliza Schultz, played by Annette O’Toole, are an extremely wealthy couple accustomed to getting their own way at any cost. John Pilgrim, played by Josh Stewart is described as a man whose calm exterior belies a ruthless interior. Pilgrim left behind a life of violence, but circumstances have forced him to use his old skills, bringing him into Frank Castle’s world.
The second season is executive produced by series showrunner Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal) and Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Daredevil; Marvel’s Jessica Jones; Marvel’s Luke Cage).
The series sees Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Ben Barnes as Billy Russo, Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madanias, and Jason R. Moore as Curtis Hoyle return. Giorgia Whigham (Sierra Burgess Is A Loser) as Amy Bendix, Josh Stewart (Interstellar) as John Pilgrim, Floriana Lima (Supergirl) as Krista Dumont, Corbin Bernsen (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) as Anderson Schultz, and Annette O’Toole (Smallville) as Eliza Schultz.
All 13 episodes of Marvel’s The Punisher Season 2 will premiere worldwide January 18th 2019 on Netflix.
