Well, secrets, smells, and squirting is basically what goes down in this week’s episode of Younger! Before we jump into it, the fabulous Miriam Shor, who plays Diana Trout, directed this episode and did an incredible job! This is the second episode, and second anything ever, that she has directed with 5.05 Big Little Liza being her first. Now, on to the recap!

Last week on Younger, the episode saw Liza and Kelsey trying to get a true crime book by alleged murderess Audrey Colbert, however, somehow Zane ends up stealing the title from them. It also sees Liza and Charles indulge in a little roleplay while listening to the true crime podcast, but it seems Charles is hiding things after taking out a mortgage on his house. Josh and Clare decide to get divorced but raise Gemma together, while Maggie needs some help in recovering after seeing Clare give birth and winds up sleeping with the support group’s leader, Beth. Kelsey also plays dirty since Quinn bulk bought her books and announces early that Quinn is running for Senate.

Time For A Little Erotica

Liza (Sutton Foster) walks into the kitchen to find Beth (Nicole Ari Parker) and Maggie (Debi Mazar) kissing, which leads to them being introduced. After Beth leaves, Maggie suggests a double date when Liza expresses her concerns about Charles and a potential new company.

At Millennial, Liza, Diana (Miriam Shor), and Kelsey (Hilary Duff) are having a meeting as Kelsey is looking to promote different titles after losing the Audrey Colbert book. A suggested title from Liza is ‘The Seasoned Slut’, which is apparently “erotica for babyboomers” with an older female chef as the main character. Diana suggests they do what they can because the author, Bronwyn, does well for the publishing company. After Diana leaves, Kelsey shows Liza an article about Zane getting the Audrey Colbert book and mentions that Mercury has offices in the financial district.

Kelsey goes to see Zane (Charles Michael Davis) at his new office and finds him in a community workspace, but according to Zane, it’s the way to do it to save money and then spend some on nice meetings instead. Their confrontation ends with Kelsey upset with Zane for not being open about what he was doing. After she leaves, Kelsey has lunch with Lauren (Molly Bernard) and she needs something to help her unwind. With Zane out of the picture, she turns to dating apps, but Kelsey has been without any bites as she has publisher for Millennial Print in her profile. As per Lauren’s wisdom, that’s something you include if you’re looking for women as it’s too much for men to handle her “big-dick energy” and she’s essentially wielding a “giant psychic schlong”. After changing her title to creative director, she gets some matches!

Shedding and Squirting

Clare (Phoebe Dynevor) brings Gemma to Josh’s (Nico Tortorella) as she needs to do a project at work for the new few days, but before she leaves, it seems Gemma is hungry and she goes to breastfeed her. However, it seems Clare has a clogged duct and ends up accidentally spraying Josh in the face with her milk!

At Millennial, Diana works her marketing magic by proposing they put erotica on MetroCycle kiosks and she asks Liza to call to see if that will help get the author to renew her contract. Meanwhile, Kelsey goes to get hair done and according to her hairdresser, it seems Kelsey has a bit of a bald patch going from some hair loss. The next morning, it seems Lauren has been up with Gemma all night for some reason while Kelsey dons a hat as she’s losing more hair.

It appears Bronwyn (played by Becky Ann Baker) won’t sign her contract so they’ve set a meeting and Diana suggests Kelsey loses the hat. She informs them that she has alopecia while Diana begins to rattle off all the issues she’s had including alopecia not on her head and shingles every April. During the meeting, they pitch the MetroCycle kiosks where people can “get on and get off“, which Bronwyn doesn’t like it as it’s not her demographic. Brownyn believes Millennial will change her voice and books and doesn’t like the lack of valuing experience within the Millennial staff.

A Whiff of Garlic

Kelsey later runs into Maggie at a pharmacy as Kelsey needs something for her balding, while Maggie has a little burning and itching going on from too much hot yoga. Maggie then invites Kelsey over for a drink, which is also their double date night. At their apartment, Beth suggests Maggie uses something more natural and grabs a clove of garlic from the kitchen bench and well, puts it in the area it needs to be. Later on, Kelsey and Charles swear they can smell garlic bread or something!

Kelsey brings up Bronwyn during the dinner along with Zane’s new publishing house and Charles tries to change the subject. He later says that what’s going on between Zane and Kelsey is just business and not personal, but Kelsey disagrees. Maggie then brings up the garlic and everyone bursts into laughter.

Liza walks Charles out and she confronts him as she can tell he’s lying. He confesses that he never wanted to give up publishing, but he also wanted to be with Liza. She’s clearly hurt and says he can’t be on the board of Millennial and run a competing publishing house, but he says he needs time and asks for it to stay between just them.

The Truth Comes Out

At Inkburg, Claire comes to see Josh who has Gemma strapped to his chest and he says he’s learned so much including that Gemma loves being read to. His book of choice? Bronwyn’s erotica novel, The Hung Juror. Josh says he wants to be in Gemma’s life as much as he can be and Claire agrees.

The next morning, it seems Bronwyn has tweeted about a meeting and Kelsey knows it’s Zane and asks Liza to meet her to intercept them. She gets to Bronwyn in time with Liza arriving shortly after, but then Zane and Charles both turn up much to the surprise of Kelsey. She’s fuming about Charles working against Millennial and her, and it seems her anger is being filmed by people in the restaurant. Kelsey storms out while Charles tells Liza that Bronwyn reached out to him and with that, Liza tells Bronwyn that Charles refers to her books as ‘matron lit’.

Kelsey’s outburst has started to go viral and now Bronwyn is staying with Millennial, however, it seems agents are now looking to move their authors from Millennial to Mercury. Diana and Liza also inform Kelsey that Charles has resigned from the board and Mercury is officially their competition…

Overall Thoughts?

This season is really fun with Liza barely hiding from anyone and other people now keeping the secrets! I love the character of Charles, but I don’t like him with Liza and this secret and betrayal will definitely affect their relationship, especially with Kelsey involved in the ordeal because she will become very anti-Charles. It could also cause issues between Kelsey and Liza if Kelsey doesn’t trust her with information about Millennial as Charles might find out. It’ll be interesting to see where this goes and what is going to happen by the end of the season…will there still be a Millennial? Will they take a massive tumble and be forced to fire people and restructure? Regardless, we always know there’s plenty of drama waiting for us!

The introduction of Beth is fun because she’s into very different things in comparison to Maggie, but in a way, Malkie also was a bit of an opposite. The garlic scene made for a great time, and it was great to see them being somewhat normal and forgetting all of their troubles for a second!

I’m personally still on the fence about Clare, I don’t know if she’s trustworthy and if she might leave Gemma with Josh or take her away? It’s something about the way she was in the scene where Josh said he wanted to be involved as much as he can since her response was a little off.

Until next time Younger fans!

Honestly, this season of Younger is going to be so much fun! There’s so much drama happening within the workplace this season with Kelsey trying to settle into her new position with Quinn essentially dictating, but it looks like we’re headed for some relationship drama with Charles and Liza!

Last week’s episode saw Millennial realise Quinn’s book is a dud, but Quinn wouldn’t let them delay its release and it briefly caused some tension between Liza and Kelsey. Diana and Enzo had a brief split, however, with a romantic gesture in the newspaper, Diana wins him back while Josh and Clare became parents to baby Gemma in the back of an Uber with Maggie copping a close-up of all the action.

A Tale As Old As True Crime

The Younger gang are eating together at Liza (Sutton Foster) and Maggie’s (Debi Mazar) and they begin talking about Exonerated, which is a tell-all podcast about Audrey Colbert who was charged with murdering a couple who invited her to the Four Seasons for a three-way (fictional for the series so don’t get obsessed!). She claims she was in the bathroom at the time of the murders and Maggie responds with “I swear the only thing white women love more than Pinterest is murder.” Liza and Kelsey (Hilary Duff) says Audrey refused to be interviewed, but they scored a meeting as she’s pitching a book.

It seems Clare (Phoebe Dynevor) and Josh (Nico Tortorella) are doing well with their daughter, Gemma, however, the birth seems to have traumatised Maggie and she can’t even look at or say vagina. This then causes Lauren (Molly Bernard) to take Maggie to a trauma group for those who witnessed birth, and it seems she’s instantly drawn to the group’s leader, Beth (played by Nicole Ari Parker). Maggie returns the next day to see Beth and she offers private assistance and the pair end up kissing.

As for Charles (Peter Hermann), he’s listening to Exonerated and visiting the Rubin Museum which they mention. Liza then turns up and it seems they’re having a little roleplay moment…

A Book To Die For?

At Millennial, it seems Quinn’s (Laura Benanti) book has been a hit with it on the bestseller list for three weeks and now she would like Kelsey to do an interview alongside her. Diana (Miriam Shor) doesn’t understand the fascination with true crime and she’s not interested in joining the meeting due to Audrey’s alleged murders.

Redmond (Michael Urie) is Audrey’s agent and he’s trying to sell her, however, the girls start to think that perhaps she did kill the couple. When asked, they say no while their minds say probably. Audrey (played by Willa Fitzgerald) also has a thing for phrases by dropping “sliced” and “chopped” along with seeming incredibly strange and it only scares Liza and Kelsey a little more.

Kelsey goes to the liquor store to get a bottle of Dom when Zane (Charles Michael Davis) turns up asking for a bottle too since he’s celebrating. She wants to know where he’s working, but he says “it’s big” and since there’s only one bottle, the two end up sharing it. *wink wink*

Meanwhile, Clare falls asleep next to Josh and he seems somewhat confused. He talks to Lauren later about it and he says they’re still technically married and it would be good for Gemma, but he doesn’t think they’re right for each other. Later on, Josh tells Clare he’s happy with everything and she agrees that they’re not right together and they decide to divorce.

Book Drama

The next day, Diana arrives at Millennial on crutches and she explains that she was telling some publisher friends that CLAW will be number one on The New York Times bestseller list when she found out one of them has the scoop on a book by Audrey Colbert. Apparently she’s pitching to the major publishing houses and Diana got so frazzled she injured herself.

Kelsey and Liza call Redmond angry about the Audrey Colbert book and tell them of Quinn’s bestseller position in hopes it shows them off, but he tells them it’s a scam as bots are tweeting about CLAW so the sales aren’t real. They go to see Quinn and confront her about how she bulk-bought books to boost sales, however, she doesn’t think it matters since the money is coming in.

Liza visits Charles’s townhouse and finds a bank letter on the table which says he’s been approved for a loan of almost a million dollars when Charles walks in. He says he’s just moving things around and avoids the questions by going for a little more roleplay instead.

At Quinn’s CLAW interview, Kelsey’s a few drinks in and wants to out Quinn’s actions the next day, but Liza says it’s not the right way to go. During the interview, Kelsey asks if there’s any questions and the very first one is about why there’s a dagger next to her number one and she claims she doesn’t know and turns it over to Kelsey. She confirms that there were sales and decides to announce that Quinn is running for Senate.

The next day, Diana, Kelsey, and Liza meet with Redmond and mention Quinn’s coverage in hopes to get Audrey Colbert. He tells them they already accepted an offer from a new little publishing company called Mercury. Redmond informs Kelsey that Zane is the editor and Liza puts two and two together judging by her expression.

Overall Thoughts?

Let’s be real. If you’re a Josh and Liza supporter, you’re all screaming because Josh isn’t going to stay with Clare and hoping that Charles’s new publishing house is going to drive a wedge in their relationship and ultimately be the end of it. Yes? Thought so. Anyway, Charles and Liza have never really had the chemistry. Yes there’s been some “steamy” moments, but they seem awkward and forced while it comes across more natural with Josh? This could have been an age thing at first with Liza trying to play young, but even after the age discovery, it didn’t really change much for them. I for one am glad Josh manned up and decided that he couldn’t just be with Clare for the sake of it, but instead they’ll still raise Gemma together.

It’ll be interesting to see how Quinn begins to treat Kelsey because of her actions in announcing Quinn’s campaign, but really, good on for Kelsey. She may cause so much drama, but at least she’s trying to take a stand in the least dramatic way she can.

So, what episode will Josh and Liza reconnect? We’ll have to wait and see!

Also, Younger will be off next week due to July 4th in America, so it’ll return Wednesday July 10th at 10/9c.

It seems like this season of Younger is going to be absolutely fantastic because the second episode was certainly something else! It’s typically not what you’d expect of a second episode, however, so much happened without it seeming overwhelming. I don’t know how they do it, but these 23 minute long episodes just go by so quickly, but they always manage to pack so many things in? It’s truly great!

During the season 6 premiere, Charles’ relationship is revealed which causes Liza to come clean to everyone that it was her and not Kelsey, and this upsets Diana who later puts it out there that she’s looking for a new job. Kelsey can’t afford to lose Diana as the business is in trouble, and it ultimately lead to Kelsey and Liza dragging Diana into singing ‘9 To 5’ making for an epic scene. Meanwhile, Josh finds out that he is going to be a dad to Clare’s baby while Charles and Liza declare their feelings for one another. As for what Charles is going to do next, it seems as though it’s going to be involving Zane…a new publishing company perhaps? We shall see!

Dealing With Reality

Liza (Sutton Foster) is rocking a pantsuit in hopes she looks more business-like after revealing she is the one Charles was sleeping with. It seems Liza and Maggie (Debi Mazar) are invited to Josh and Clare’s gender reveal to see if it’s ‘a girl, a boy, or TBD’, however, Maggie still doesn’t trust Clare. With the baby due in two weeks, Josh (Nico Tortorella) turns to Liza to help him in getting some things from a baby store since Liza knows it all and it seems Josh has some unresolved feelings towards Liza judging by some lingering stares.

Diana (Miriam Shor), Kelsey (Hilary Duff), and Liza are at a meeting to obtain some data and research about Quinn’s book, CLAW, but Diana isn’t exactly for using focus groups to vet authors since they’ve never done it before. It turns out, the focus group absolutely hates the book and now they’re concerned. Liza and Kelsey then meet with Quinn (Laura Benanti) who comes bearing gifts for them, which comes in the form of business cards in a gold case. Kelsey informs Quinn that they want to hold CLAW back until Spring due to the tone. However, Quinn isn’t for it and it will be Millennial’s first release.

The next day, Kelsey gives Liza a manuscript which is a screenplay of a film that Reese Witherspoon’s company will be producing and she wants it to be their first release. They hope to adapt into a novel and the screenwriter is on-board meaning they could release it in a month.

Dealing With The Truth

At the New York Literacy Foundation event, Kelsey doesn’t think she belongs, but she’s happy to see Zane (Charles Michael Davis). He tells her that he wants more now that he’s career is back on the up. Charles and Liza are also attending for their first public event, and Diana isn’t thrilled to see them there. Lauren (Molly Bernard) interrupts Diana’s stare as she thinks Diana and Enzo’s love story should be submitted to Modern Romance, but she’s against it.

It seems Charles isn’t happy that Liza is copping all the flack for their relationship, so the pair go over to see Diana and Enzo (Chris Tardio) and he apologises for leaving without a word beforehand. A little conflict later arises between Charles and Liza after Charles essentially saying that perhaps Kelsey shouldn’t have become publisher because experience means something and she’ll “get there eventually”. Liza tells him about Kelsey’s current work and he believes people would blame the first book on the previous publisher, but the second will stick if it’s bad.

Afterwards, Enzo and Diana are walking back and she says she always thought she’d end up with Charles, or someone like him—”cultured, sophisticated, man of the world”. However, it comes across as though Enzo will never be enough for Diana and that she’s settling so he walks off.

Dealing With Problems

The next day, Lauren comes in to go through the photos from the event and shows a gorgeous image of Diana and Enzo. It appears Lauren already went ahead with the Modern Romance story, so Diana says she’ll handle cancelling it herself now that her and Enzo are over.

Kelsey isn’t thrilled that Liza is telling Charles about her decisions and what’s happening. Kelsey now thinks Liza believes she isn’t strong enough, so she asks for a one-on-one dinner meeting with Quinn and slams the door in Liza’s face. At the dinner, Kelsey informs Quinn that the book is being pushed back until Spring. However, Quinn wants it out as she is planning on running for Senate so CLAW will introduce her as a strong voice. Kelsey puts her foot down, but Quinn still believes it’s going to be a big hit and wants it published. Quinn also says if it flops, she will leave.

At Charles’ house, Liza and Charles are cleaning up when he asks her about Quinn’s book and Kelsey, but Liza wants to a Chinese wall between them about Millennial.

Dealing With Love

At the gender reveal, Liza tells Kelsey that she won’t talk to Charles about Millennial and the pair make up. When it comes time to reveal the gender, Lauren tells everyone the confetti inside the balloon will reveal the gender so Liza helps brings it over, but accidentally lets it go and it flies off into the air. However, it seems they won’t have to wait as Clare’s (Phoebe Dynevor) waters break.

Meanwhile, Enzo’s employee shows Enzo a newspaper article which features Diana and Enzo’s sewer pictures and a story about them, and it appears Diana wrote the article. Enzo goes to see Diana and she says she meant every word and the pair kiss.

In an Uber, Josh is in the front seat with Maggie in the back along with Clare who begins to start pushing. Cut to the hospital, Josh holds his baby girl and Liza looks on with a somewhat wistful expression. She heads back to Charles’ house and Liza is hesitant to say that she’s also happy for Clare and Josh.

Overall Thoughts?

Love it, love it love it. Well, I’m not thrilled about Josh having a baby with Clare, although I am happy he’s becoming a father like he wanted. That being said, I’m sticking with Maggie because Clare can’t be trusted and well, she’s never going to be a main Younger character so perhaps we can just fade her out of the picture e.g. Josh is not the father. Plus, the creators of the series cannot just start giving us looks and hesitating moments in relation to Liza and Josh without some of us thinking that there’s still hope for the pair and that Charles actually isn’t right for Liza?

One relationship I am satisfied with is Diana and Enzo. I’ll admit, my jaw dropped during the scene where Enzo left, but I hoped Diana had come to her senses after her previous fails to see that she’s happy with Enzo and that they’re good together. Her story was absolutely beautiful and it tied so well being narrated over the scene of Josh with his baby too.

Naturally being a drama series, there was also plenty of drama with Quinn causing issues for Liza and Kelsey, and it’s definitely not going to be the end of it. It’ll also be intriguing to see when Charles and Zane’s new business comes to light and how it will affect their relationships with Liza and Kelsey respectively… (Let Liza and Josh be together please.. Thanks!)

Younger is officially back with the premiere of season 6 and we couldn’t be more excited! If you don’t know about the series, get on it ASAP because this series is packed with great characters, drama romance, friendship, and fantastic storylines which centralise on a group of individuals that work within the publishing industry, along with their friends, family, and partners.

In season 5, we saw Charles find out about Liza, Diana pursued a relationship with Enzo, Kelsey became involved again with another author while also juggling Zane, Josh returned from Ireland and almost left before he decided he’s not done trying to be with Liza until a pregnant Clare rocks up on his doorstep, Lauren is out there trying to make a name for herself, and Maggie continues doing her art and finds herself in a relationship with Malkie. If you need even more of a refresher, check out our full season 5 recap!

Now, on to the new season!

Back At Empirical

After spending the night at Liza’s, Charles (Peter Hermann) has a sore neck, which he tries to blame on the bed, and he’s supposedly looking forward to having some free time now that he’s stepped down from Empirical. As Liza (Sutton Foster) leaves for work, she says “love you” much to her shock.

Liza tells Kelsey (Hilary Duff) about her “verbal grenade” and her leaving so abruptly when they’re interrupted by Lauren (Molly Bernard) who is filming social media content to make Kelsey a role model since she’s now the youngest publisher in New York.

Diana (Miriam Shor) is surprised to see Lauren so Liza explains that Lauren has been hired to be their social media strategist, to which Diana simply says “you call the shots, Kelsey. You’re the boss.” Now that we’ve gotten rid of the sexual tension at Empirical, it looks like we may be in for a tiny bit of Kelsey/Diana rivalry this season! Later on, Liza confesses to Kelsey that she’s a little worried about Charles, but she will support Kelsey in every way she can.

Some Skin and A Bump

With a barely buttoned up shirt, Maggie (Debbie Mazar) is treated to some abs when Charles walks into the lounge room. Talk about a way to meet your roommate’s boyfriend! As he covers up, she tells him that the male form does very little and invites him to sit down and talk—cue the best friend talk! Maggie says that both Charles and Liza have been through a lot and can either make people perfect for one another or wreck them…

Meanwhile, Josh (Nico Tortorella) has coffee with Clare (Phoebe Dynevor) who claims she didn’t know that she was pregnant until she was 13 weeks along and didn’t know how to tell him. He feels the baby kick and the pair seem happy… Oh Josh, what are you in for with this girl again!?

Cue The Work Drama

Liza is excited about having Kelsey’s old office and Kelsey says Liza should talk to Josh at some point. However, before they can get into that, Quinn (Laura Benanti) says they have a problem. The article about Charles and Liza is about to go public, but it’s rather negative. Quinn says if Liza comes forward about her age, everyone will then assume it was actually Kelsey so they need to keep it quiet for now. Diana storms in and congratulates Kelsey on “bottoming her way to the very top” so Liza yells out to everyone that it was her, and this only seems to upset Diana more. Next minute, Liza receives a picture of a pregnant Clare from Josh. Drama, drama, drama.

After this, Diana meets with Redmond (Michael Urie) and puts it out there that she’d be interested in a new job and doesn’t care if he doesn’t keep his inquiries quiet.

At Empirical, Quinn and Kelsey are having a meeting about finances and after a whole bunch of acronyms, Kelsey learns the company is in fact losing money and now she has to make cuts. Kelsey later goes to see Zane (Charles Michael Davis), which features some flirtation, but Zane wants to stay friends for now. He tells her Diana is looking for a new job and he says they can’t afford to lose Diana.

Crisis After Crisis

After his text, Josh is at Liza’s and he informs Maggie and Liza that Clare works for Google and managed to get transferred to New York. Maggie suggests a paternity test and Liza seconds it, but Josh seems a little hesitant about asking Clare.

Returning to Empirical, Liza and Kelsey have a meeting with a potential author and it piques Kelsey’s interest as it’s all about how females may get set up to fail in businesses and this could be the situation Kelsey is in. Later, Kelsey tells Liza about Diana job hunting so they head to her apartment. Greeted by Enzo (Chris Tardio), he informs them that she’s not there as she’s having a crisis and they know exactly where to find her.

At Marie’s Crisis Cafe, they find her singing next to the piano and try to apologise with Kelsey offering part of her salary. However, Diana says it’s only a matter of time until she’s gone since she’s not a millennial and walks off. Liza then has an idea and whispers a song Diana loves to the piano man. That song? Dolly Parton’s 9 To 5. Kelsey and Liza then start singing and approaching Diana in hopes she’ll join in. She starts singing certain lines aggressively, but then eases up making for a very fun scene.

Afterwards, Kelsey and Liza find Josh at his shop and apparently it is Josh’s baby. He asks Liza to help him out with everything and reflects on why they broke up.

The next morning, Liza brings Diana some coffee and things are back to normal. Maggie then calls to Liza that she has a new bed to enjoy so Liza goes to say thank you to Charles. He says he loves her and they kiss when Zane interrupts them as he has a meeting with Charles since they’re trying to figure out their next move…

Overall Thoughts?

Honestly, I could watch this series on repeat. The writing is fantastic and the characters all get their moment in most episodes with great, and sometimes unexpected, storylines to continue their character development. It’s going to be interesting to see where season 6 goes as we have so many new paths for the characters from Charles and Liza finally being together and out in the open, Josh going to be a father, and Kelsey becoming head of Empirical. Plus it also seems as though maybe Zane and Charles will start their own thing together, which could cause conflict with Empirical along with Kelsey and Liza.

Diana had quite the storyline last season, but here’s to hoping her and Enzo will continue to have scenes together and with Lauren now the social media strategist, it’ll be fun to see her interacting more regularly with everyone else.

Being a Josh fan, I can’t say I’m thrilled about Clare being pregnant and part of me hopes is that the results are wrong or Josh lied and never asked Clare to get a paternity test.

Lastly, I am all for more musical scenes in this series because this cast is beyond talented and the 9 To 5 scene in this episode was incredibly fun and a nice way for the girls to make up rather than have a conversation or Diana continue on the path of finding a new job. That being said, I still feel there may be some tension between Kelsey and Diana at some point, and perhaps Kelsey will decide that she misses working on books and decide to give the position to Diana at the end? Who knows, we’ll have to see how it plays out!

This article contains some spoilers for seasons 1-5 of Younger

A friend of mine recently recommended I watch Younger. I took his advice immediately and proceeded to watch all five seasons in a little under three weeks. I know, my life is outlandish in its glamorousness.

Now obviously Liza is the central character, but what struck me as I finished gorging myself on the show (and raging about Charles and Liza’s relationship which I do not ship) was that its best character is in fact Diana Trout (followed closely by Maggie, but that’s a discussion for another article).

Diana is an immediately iconic character, brought to life by Miriam Shor and a rather spectacular wardrobe team. In this interview, Shor spoke about Diana’s necklaces as akin to a suit of armour. As an older woman who has climbed to a position of seniority within a notoriously cliquey industry, her ascent to prominence would have required her to adopt a certain toughness. This not only takes the form of a gruff personality but a wardrobe to match. This article delves into all of the effort put into the necklace choice, and how much of a staple they are for the show.

If you aren’t already convinced, allow me to make the case for just how fabulous Ms Trout actually is.

Season one quickly established that her no-nonsense attitude is not mutually exclusive with the capacity to be generous to the people around her. In episode seven Liza is on the hook for $1,800 to make up the difference in her daughter’s university tuition when her ex husband fails to come through with his half. She tells Diana that she is having trouble repaying her student debt and Diana responds by simply leaving a cheque for the amount on her computer without any fanfare. Not only is this an absolutely boss move Diana’s part, but it’s an example of one of the show’s strengths; the strong solidarity between its female characters.

In the pilot I heaved a mighty inner groan at what seemed to be the setup of an antagonistic relationship between Diana and her ‘younger’ assistant. I expected that Diana would steal Liza’s ideas and undermine her. Instead, the show has portrayed her offering brusque but genuine guidance and support to Liza, actually listening to Liza’s suggestions, and giving her credit when it was due. It belies the narrative about women being in competition with one another, and provides an important normative message of how women in fact get ahead by helping one another. External to the prospect of workplace rivalry, it is a testament to the writers that even though Diana is interested in Charles, she never views Liza as a rival because she simply is blind to the mutual attraction between them (as indeed I wish I was).

This leads me nicely to the manner in which Diana’s relationship to romance has evolved over the course of the show. In the first seasons, her crush on Charles had her set up for ridicule, but she moves beyond this. Given her own marriage ended when her husband left her for a man, she is remarkably honest about something which must have been terribly humiliating, and she faces this part of her past with wry humour, which is an incredibly impressive way to conduct herself. It makes sense that this would prevent her from being able to open herself up to new emotional opportunities (perhaps why she is so into her boss, but I could be reaching here).

Yet she not only opens herself up to a relationship with Richard (ugh what a slimebag), but respects herself enough to be able to toss him out when it becomes clear that he really is nothing more than a user. It’s what made the relationship she finds in season five even more fulfilling for me as a viewer – she has gone through lusting after an unobtainable figure, to allowing someone desperately unworthy of her into her home, to finding a nice, decent guy. Moreover, her willingness to accept Enzo for who he is, as this article outlines, in fact distinguishes her from Liza and Kelsey, as she is able to accept the person she loves for exactly what he is (rather than say, lusting after your boss when you have a really lovely, oh I don’t know, tattoo artist, who adores you and would do anything for you).

Finally, Diana is a rich character. She performs in a song from Cabaret with Cheryl Sussman in s5e11 in Frankfurt, she busts out some very decent Italian to stand up for herself to her boyfriend’s mother, and she takes Kelsey to a cabaret bar (I guess we’d call it that, anyway) to cheer her up and gets righteously drunk. She even is willing to participate in a nude photo shoot even though that’s really external to her comfort zone. She’s a complex, dynamic woman who also happens to be brilliant at her job and loyal to the people close to her.

I’m hanging out for season six to arrive around because I want to see Diana Trout. And really, you should be, too.

It’s almost here! TV Land’s addictive series Younger is set to return for its sixth season on June 12th and many fans (us included) cannot wait to see what drama is instore for us this season! As always, the previous season was packed with plenty of storylines with Charles finding out about Liza, Diana pursuing a relationship with Enzo, Kelsey becoming involved with another author once more while also juggling Zane, Josh returned from Ireland and almost left before he decided he’s not done trying to be with Liza until a pregnant Clare rocks up on his doorstep, Lauren is out there trying to make a name for herself, and Maggie continues doing her art and finds herself in a relationship with Malkie.

However, if you haven’t had time to binge watch the whole series or season five again, then don’t worry, we’ve created an episodic recap to jog your memory! If you want to read the full recap of the episode, just click the episode’s title!

Read on to discover what happened in season 5 and tell us in the comments below if you’re looking forward to the new season!

5.01: #LizaToo

Liza returns from Ireland and jumps straight back into work, which involves a new series by Edward LL Moore, however, things take a not-so unexpected turn when women began to make allegations about LL Moore and the series adding a little #MeToo to the episode. Meanwhile, Pauline’s novel Marriage Vacation is almost here and after the allegations came out, her book takes over a billboard in Times Square to replace Moore’s. Unfortunately, the drama doesn’t stop there as Moore investigates those who made allegations against him and that included Liza. The information was taken directly to Charles, and now he knows who Liza really is.

5.02: A Titanic Problem

Marriage Vacation catches the interest of Reese Witherspoon’s book club and with the hard work of Liza and Kelsey, Millennial signs a deal with Reese’s production company Hello Sunshine for exclusive access to their upcoming titles. Josh is back and later on, we learn that Clare isn’t coming to the U.S anymore and he seeks comfort in Liza, platonic comfort that is. During the book launch of Marriage Vacation, Charles makes the big announcement despite not wanting to give Liza any kudos. Afterwards, he informs Pauline that their attempt at a relationship is not working.

5.03: The End of the Tour

Kelsey and Zane face off in order to get Jake Devereux, a former White House speechwriter for Obama, to write a memoir. After a little romp around, the pair find out the next morning that Jake wants to work with them both. As for Liza, her and Diana are trying to help Pauline get through her interviews when they keep asking her personal questions about Charles. However, Pauline comes out with the truth, and Charles assumes lying was Liza’s idea and he confronts Liza when she chases after him.

Liza meets a Vanity Fair writer named Don and the pair hit it off, which leads to them spending time together. It also leads to Kelsey and Liza bringing him in to pitch a potential book, but grumpy and upset Charles won’t even let Don speak. Meanwhile, Diana goes out on a date with Enzo, the plumber she previously had a fling with, while Maggie, Lauren, and Josh hang out. Surprisingly, Charles somewhat apologises to Liza, but becomes even more angry with Liza.

Liza is almost outed by freelance writer Don who she was seeing after he saw Liza’s real and fake ID cards. Meanwhile, Kelsey was invited to a function with Jake, which results in the pair kissing, and for Josh, he almost makes the decision to leave Brooklyn behind but decides to stay after Liza’s speech, and most likely for her too.

5.06: Sex, Liza, and Rock and Roll

Maggie finds herself selected for a special art show which leads to a married couple interested in her artwork and she also finally meets Diana; Liza winds up helping Charles obtain a manuscript and the pair end up drinking and almost finally talking at the author’s house; Diana spends the night at Enzo’s house; and Lauren tells Kelsey she can have both Jake and Zane.

5.07: A Christmas Miracle

Kelsey has trouble juggling both Zane and Jake, so she ends it with Zane although Jake sees them kiss and gets Zane thrown off as editor. Meanwhile, Liza and Charles “meet” at a Christmas party where we see Liza and her family perform a song from The Sound of Music, and gradually realises that Liza has done everything for her daughter, which leads to him turning up to her place, apologising, and going in for a big ol’ kiss.

Charles (Peter Hermann) and Liza (Sutton Foster) in Younger 5.07 ‘A Christmas Miracle’

5.08: The Bubble

Charles and Liza find themselves in their own little love bubble by doing the devil’s tango, stealing moments at work including footsies and a stairwell make-out sesh, and a cute little date. However, happiness can never last in a drama and so Pauline was brought back into the picture to stir up some trouble. Meanwhile, Zane was upset over being kicked off the Millennial book, however, after Jake went on a little tantrum spree after Kelsey asked to cool things off, he gave Kelsey all the credit for what she has done so far. Maggie also got some significant airtime when Malkie was brought back into the picture, and she found herself trying to prove herself to Malkie that she can let someone in.

Charles (Peter Hermann) and Liza (Sutton Foster) in Younger 5.08 ‘The Bubble’

Liza and Charles are trying to cover up their relationship, however, Liza has to come clean to Kelsey after Charles overrules Kelsey’s decisions. Lauren manages to get Kelsey recognised for an awards, and after her ordeal with Liza, she gives a heartwarming speech about how Liza has been part of her success also. The girls also score a new title with Quinn Tyler who is a self-made billionaire. At the end of the episode, Charles wants his relationship to stay off anybody’s radar since it’s “not the right time”.

Diana stood up to Enzo’s mother during dinner and now Enzo will be moving to Manhattan to make their relationship work. Josh’s tattoo parlour reopens with a new look and he thanks Liza for believing in him. Caitlin introduces her much older boyfriend, which resulted in an awkward brunch with Liza and Josh. After Caitlin’s boyfriend asks her to leave the wedding they were attending, Liza tells Caitlin the truth about everything she’s done. This results in her confronting Charles and wanting to put their relationship on hold until Charles was ready to be open about it.

Empirical heads to Frankfurt to promote their upcoming books and we’re treated to a cabaret performance by Diana and Cheryl. Liza is offered a job by Cheryl, which means Charles and Liza could finally be together. For Kelsey, she becomes upset by the news of Liza potentially leaving, while Maggie and Malkie wind up in a fight as Malkie wants children. It also brings up jokingly that Josh could be a potential sperm donor…

Liza takes the job Cheryl offered, but it’s not all that it’s cracked up to be and doesn’t take it. Kelsey is forced to come clean to Charles about her relationship with Jake and she learns that Zane wouldn’t take credit for the memoir. Zane tells Kelsey he was in love with her and quits Empirical. Maggie talks to Josh about being a sperm donor, but he instead dreams of having a baby with Liza and says no and then the following day, a pregnant Clare turns up on his doorstep. Meanwhile, Charles meets with Quinn Tyler as potential investor and she wants to make Millennial the forefront of the publishing house. Later on, Quinn is sent an article about Charles and Liza and so he steps down from his role and Kelsey becomes publisher. At the end of the episode, Charles and Liza walk off holding hands, but their faces don’t look overly happy with what’s happened.

Well Younger fans, in the blink of an eye, the fifth season has come to an end, but not before throwing a few surprises at us! In true Younger fashion, something happened to each of our characters causing an array of emotions from happiness to anger, along with many laughs.

During last week’s episode, the publishing company heads to Frankfurt to promote their upcoming books and we’re treated to a cabaret performance by Diana and Cheryl.

Liza The Chick(y) Babe

Liza is at Cheryl’s publishing house and she tells her that Liza will be heading up their new imprint. Chick(y) will be targeting women, but they won’t be excluding the Y chromosome and Liza will also be given a very spacious office and generous salary. Liza asks if her lawyer can look over the contract before signing.

At Empirical, Diana speaks of a Capitol Letters party that Joe Biden is throwing in DC according to Charles, however, Kelsey hasn’t heard anything about it. Kelsey visits Charles saying she can attend, but Jake has asked for Kelsey not to go. Charles queries this, which causes Kelsey to tell the truth about her and Jake. He also lets Kelsey know that Zane refused to take over the Capitol Letters book.

Charles meets with Quinn Tyler as she has apparently been putting together a group of investors to back Empirical. She tells him to keep an open mind due to having a specific strategy on how to run the company. Afterwards, Charles has Liza and Kelsey in his office and informs them that Quinn is impressed with Millennial. According to Quinn, she wants to make Millennial the prime driver of the business and it would become the flagship brand. Kelsey says Liza cannot leave now, but Liza still thinks she needs to leave. Liza speaks with Charles privately and after asking if Kelsey can run it on her own, Liza says she will tell Quinn that she is leaving.

Liza meets with Quinn to tell her, and Quinn thinks that Chick(y) isn’t right for Liza and doesn’t understand why Liza would leave. So, in that moment, Liza tells Quinn the truth. However, Quinn loves it because she embodies every single CLAW principle from Quinn’s book and that it could be huge for the company.

Oh Baby!

At Maggie’s, Josh is over asking about Malkie and he thinks them having a kid would be great. Lauren then “helps” Josh with deciding if he should help Malkie and Maggie by hosting a meditation circle. He dreams of holding the cutest little baby boy, and in that dream he is with Liza before waking up wistful of what he wants so badly. Josh goes to see Maggie and he tells her that he wants it to be his kid with someone he loves.

The following day at Josh’s apartment, Lauren opens the door and screams before slamming it closed. Josh rushes out and opens the door to find a pregnant Clare and Josh is not happy.

Josh (Nico Tortorella) and Liza (Sutton Foster) in Younger 5.12 ‘Lizability’

New Paths

Kelsey stops by Zane’s office to find out why Zane didn’t take up Jake’s book. He tells her that he was in love with her and she’s upset he said it in past tense for the first time. It seems Zane also knows about the new changes coming their way, and congratulates Kelsey on getting it all. Later on, Kelsey sees Zane heading for the elevators with his belongings and he tells her that he’s quit. She says he can work for Millennial, but he’s already gotten another job.

Charles and Liza are out for a walk and they talk about being together out in the open. However, Liza is interrupted by heaps of texts about the contract. The next day, Liza goes to Cheryl and it turns out she’s arranged a party with everyone that will be involved in Chick(y). Liza awkwardly has to Cheryl she can’t take the job and Cheryl explodes.

A Hot Mess (Literally)

Diana is over at Enzo’s empty and tiny apartment as apparently Enzo has been assigned to a special task force to take down a fatberg. What is that? It’s a congealed mass of things you shouldn’t flush and he’s quite excited about it. Diana can’t control herself over the whole thing, but Enzo hurt about the way she has reacted. The next morning, it seems Diana is angry and upset that Enzo is ignoring her and she’s back in old Diana mode.

At Empirical, Kelsey is glad Liza didn’t take the job before Diana interrupts them in a flurry about what is on the news. The news is reporting that someone has gone missing during the fatberg operation, and it happens to be Enzo. Diana arrives on the scene just as they’re pulling Enzo out of the sewer and she rushes to him. At first she hesitates (most likely because he’s covered in so much shit, literally), but then she embraces him with a grimace or two.

Diana Trout (Miriam Shor) and Enzo (Chris Tardio) in Younger 5.12 ‘Lizability’

A New Beginning

Charles meets with Quinn who has been sent an article scheduled to run tomorrow, and it’s about Liza and Charles. It turns out it was Cheryl who gave the scoop, but Charles informs Quinn the relationship is consensual and Liza isn’t 27. Quinn says she can’t have that with Charles being the face of the business and withdraws her offer. However, Charles stops her and suggests he not be the public face.

Charles holds a meeting an Empirical to tell them they’ve received a sizeable investment from Quinn. She congratulates Kelsey and Liza while saying it will be the focus on the company. Charles continues by announcing that Kelsey will be their new publisher much to her and Diana’s shock. Quinn also says Charles will be the new Chairman of the Board. Diana is shocked that Charles would accept it, and Liza assumes it’s a promotion. Diana informs her that he is being put out to pasture essentially.

Liza goes after him thinking they forced him out, and he tells her the truth, which Liza is upset about. However, he thinks it might be time for a new one with Liza and his children as now he has everything he wanted. The pair kiss before he takes her hand to stroll through the park. However, judging by their faces, it doesn’t look like they’re too happy…

Charles (Peter Hermann) and Liza (Sutton Foster) in Younger 5.12 ‘Lizability’

Overall Thoughts?

Well. Here’s to a whole year of waiting for the next season! It wasn’t a surprise Charles stepped down from his role, although I was disappointed Diana didn’t get any promotion or recognition. That being said, I am incredibly happy the season ended with Diana happy with her beau. I do hope the pair will remain together, minus the shit.

As for Josh, Clare coming back unfortunately wasn’t a surprise either. However, I was hoping it wouldn’t happen because well, nobody liked her I don’t think. I think it would be incredibly amusing for Maggie to assume a maternal role though, and maybe if Clare doesn’t want to keep the baby, they could adopt? Let’s just get Clare out of the picture ASAP.

It was interesting to see Charles and Liza’s reaction at the episode go from incredibly loving to an almost ‘what the heck are we doing and what is next for us’. Now they can be together, are they officially out of their bubble? Has the thrill of the relationship been all that’s kept the fire going? I hope so. I’ve never been much of a Charles fan if you can tell.

Will Zane be heading up Chick(y)? Will Kelsey crack under the new pressure? How will Liza’s true age be revealed? Will we have a Younger wedding next season? Or a new character in the form of a baby? I want season six stat.

Younger‘s ‘Fraudlein’ episode had a bit of everything—all of the characters, a new location, a musical number, an opportunity, and a little steaminess of course!

During last week’s episode, Diana stood up to Enzo’s mother during dinner and now Enzo will be moving to Manhattan to make their relationship work. Josh’s tattoo parlour reopens with a new look and he thanks Liza for believing in him. Caitlin introduces her much older boyfriend, which resulted in an awkward brunch with Liza and Josh. After Caitlin’s boyfriend asks her to leave the wedding they were attending, Liza tells Caitlin the truth. This results in her confronting Charles and wanting to put their relationship on hold until Charles was ready to be open about it.

Welcome To Frankfurt

Liza and Charles have a run-in at Empirical and Kelsey thinks it’s quite amusing saying “it’s like watching two butlers in love” since they are so polite to one another. During a meeting, Charles informs Diana, Zane, Kelsey, and Liza that they’ll be heading to the Frankfurt Book Fair, much to the dismay of Diana. Upon arriving in Frankfurt, Cheryl (Martha Plimpton) is there and she wants Diana to hit the town with her like it’s 1999. She also says a few things to remind Liza that she knows everything, and Kelsey is worried.

During drinks with Kelsey and Diana, Liza has to cover herself quickly when she almost mentions she went to Europe 20 years ago for her honeymoon. Liza sees Charles alone and goes to speak to him. He informs her the trip is a Hail Mary pass as he hasn’t heard from Quinn and he has now booked meetings with international investors, but three have already cancelled. The pair say they miss one another and all they want to do is be together in that moment.

Kelsey (Hilary Duff) and Liza (Sutton Foster) in Younger 5.11 ‘Fraudlein’

Time For Some Moisturiser

The next day at the Book Fair, Cheryl refers to Liza as ‘fraud-lein’ before Diana rushes over to tell the girls that Marriage Vacation and Capitol Letters are the choices for this year’s Book of The Fair. Cheryl taunts Diana in doing something with her that night.

Back in New York, Maggie and Malkie inform Josh and Lauren to come over for dinner. They talk about a variety of topics, including lesbians having babies, which Maggie isn’t interested in. However, it seems Malkie has tried to do IVF and they start joking about Josh being a sperm donor with a turkey baster. Unfortunately, it looks like their dinner may be another bust.

Kelsey and Liza host a press panel, and when a person asks how old Liza is, it causes some issues and Liza hates that Kelsey has to keep covering for her.

A Little Cabaret

That night, the Empirical and Millennial gang head to a cabaret show. Liza is approached by Cheryl who offers her a job with more money, especially since Empirical is struggling. Charles informs Liza there’s an interested investor before they stop talking to enjoy the show. The show? Diana and Cheryl performing Willkommen from Cabaret and it’s the best thing ever!

Charles leaves early, so Liza goes to see him in his hotel room. She tells him about the job opportunity and how it could help with their relationship, before it results a little steaminess for the pair. Meanwhile, Kelsey starts getting groped by a guy at the bar, and so Zane takes a swing at him before escorting Kelsey to her room except she’s lost her key. Liza heads out of Charles’ room only to find a very drunk Cheryl upstairs wanting to know about the job offer, and so Liza accepts. She becomes curious, and bangs on the door Liza came out of and finds a shirtless Charles.

Diana Trout (Miriam Shor) and Cheryl (Martha Plimpton) in Younger 5.11 ‘Fraudlein’

Waking Up In Germany

A dishevelled Kelsey worries about waking up in Zane’s room and she’s worried what they did together, but Zane says she passed out straight away. Zane tells her he finally heard back from an agent with an unsigned author who has written about the Sicilian Mafia, and heads off for a meeting with him. However, it turns out the guy he punched is the agent…

Liza and Kelsey are leaving, and Liza decides to Kelsey about the job offer because she’s over Kelsey lying to cover Liza’s own lies, which causes Kelsey to break down.

Kelsey (Hilary Duff) and Liza (Sutton Foster) in Younger 5.11 ‘Fraudlein’

Overall Thoughts?

You can tell the finale is definitely around the corner with all of these changes rapidly approaching us. While it wasn’t the best episode of the season, the musical number between Cheryl and Diana was the high point for me personally because who doesn’t love Cabaret or seeing a new side of Diana!? If Liza does wind up leaving Empirical, it will definitely be a big change for the series. However, it could possibly change the series too much. A theory for the season five finale could be that Charles will step down and Diana assume his role. Could Liza take up Diana’s role and the truth revealed about her? There are so many possibilities and thankfully, the episode isn’t too far away!

You can definitely tell the fifth season of Younger is drawing to a close because curve ball are being thrown at our characters during this week’s episode! From issues with Liza and Charles, to Liza needing to come clean to Caitlin, and of course, Josh finding out about Charles and expressing his frustrations…

During last week’s episode, Liza and Charles are trying to cover up their relationship, however, Liza has to come clean to Kelsey after Charles overrules Kelsey’s decisions.

Trout Beats Eel

The episode kicks off with Diana sneaking away in the morning from Enzo’s to avoid additional Uber fees, but she seems more scared of Enzo’s mother. Unfortunately for Diana, she runs into his Ma and she invites Diana to dinner, which Diana will also have to cook for. Diana winds up asking Liza to order some food and then place it in a casserole dish for the dinner, but Liza proposes Maggie makes her lasagna instead.

The following night, Diana arrives with her lasagna before meeting all the family and she winds up helping Ma in the kitchen by giving some eels a good whack before peeling them. Possibly hours later, Diana is still slaving away when they can finally serve up the food. She heads back into the kitchen for the eel dish and she’s reminded to garnish, but she does so with cheese… Ma calls her a dummy and Diana says she’s too old to fight. This causes an argument between Diana and Ma for being old, not Italian, and unable to cook. Diana says Ma is the reason Enzo is still single for scaring women away. As she catches the ferry back, Enzo apologises and he says he’ll move to her world and get an apartment so they can try. Chills I tell you, chills.

Diana Trout (Miriam Shor) and Enzo (Chris Tardio) in Younger 5.10 ‘Girls On The Side’

The Grand Re-Opening

Liza drops off coffee to Josh’s tattoo parlour, but Lauren and Kelsey deny her entry as she’s not allowed to see the renovations just yet. Kelsey talks him up saying he seems older and more mature after signing the new lease, and it seems that he just wants to impress Liza.

The girls have a meeting with Quinn Tyler (Laura Benanti) about her book, and she seems reluctant about making changes since she’s “used to being the one giving the notes, not getting them”. After Charles drops by, Quinn asks the pair if he is dating anyone, which causes Kelsey and Liza to freak out a little bit. Liza then drops by Charles’ office for an open-door conversation about Quinn’s interest and to make potential weekend plans, but Charles has a conference.

That night, the girls head to Inkburg for the re-opening and it’s an incredible transformation. Liza congratulates Josh and he introduces her to Skye (Sydney Morton) who is also a tattoo artist and specialises in “redesigning regret”. Liza says she doesn’t regret her tattoo, while Josh mentions his dragon tattoo which was meant to be for Liza’s birth year. Lauren and Kelsey then make a lovely little speech congratulating Josh and when it comes to Josh’s speech, he only acknowledges Liza for not giving up on him. Caitlin then turns up much to the surprise of Liza as Caitlin is in town for a wedding that she has been invited to because of her boyfriend….who is much older. Josh and Liza are more than shocked, which results in Caitlin getting mothered by Liza. However, Liza takes a step back and they’ll be having brunch, and Caitlin is also inviting Josh.

Josh (Nico Tortorella) in Younger 5.10 ‘Girls On The Side’

Like Mother, Like Daughter

During a very awkward brunch, the interrogation begins. It turns out Greg is an English professor, but Caitlin switched classes so they could pursue a romantic relationship. Liza is downing Bloody Mary’s and pulling faces, and she finds out their relationship is a secret. After the brunch, Josh says Liza should shut their relationship down, but Liza would be a hypocrite and comes clean to Josh about Charles. He’s not happy about it and says it’s not real because they’re sneaking behind everyone’s back.

Liza storms into the apartment to find Maggie and Kelsey there and she tells them about Caitlin and Josh. It seems bad things come in threes as they show Liza an Instagram story from Quinn Tyler’s account and she is with Charles at the conference. Later on, Liza continues scrolling through Instagram and Liza thinks her and Charles are just a fantasy. Caitlin turns up as Greg told her to leave because another faculty member was there. In that moment, Liza decides to come clean about Charles and all of her lies. Much to her surprise, Caitlin takes it well and just laughs about it all. Liza says everything should out in the open, but “we accept the love we think we deserve”.

Liza goes to see Charles and she brings up Quinn. However, it seems she wasn’t flirting with Charles, but rather making an investment with the company. Charles is still trying to keep work and their relationship separate, but Liza says she doesn’t want to be a secret. When Charles says it’s not the right time, she simply replies with “call me when it is” before walking off. Meanwhile, Josh is with Skye and he’s getting his dragon tattoo redone because “he’s done with it”.

Charles (Peter Hermann) and Liza (Sutton Foster) in Younger 5.10 ‘Girls On The Side’

Overall Thoughts?

Well, two episodes of somewhat bliss for Liza and Charles and now it’s mostly over. While I love seeing Liza happy, I am more happy that she is freeing herself of the lies she had to create in order to get by. She’s told Kelsey, Charles, Josh, and Caitlin about her true self, and why should she keep hiding things now? Everyone deserves a second chance, and Liza is simply trying to grasp that chance with both hands and hold on to it for as long as she can.

It’s been strange not seeing Josh as much this season, and this episode certainly featured him more. It was funny that it almost seemed like he was giving up on Liza after talking about not giving up. Clearly he’s not consistent and picks and chooses when he’ll work hard to have what he wants? I don’t know with that boy.

As for Diana, I am incredibly happy things are progressing with Enzo and that he is stepping up and moving out to see if they can make things work. Hopefully he’ll be the one for Diana! We need a real Younger wedding!

It looks as though history is repeating itself with more secrets, betrayals, and discoveries made in the latest episode of Younger.

During last week’s episode, Charles and Liza found themselves in their own little love bubble by doing the devil’s tango, stealing moments at work including footsies and a stairwell make-out sesh, and a cute little date.

In the new episode, it seems Lauren is Kelsey’s self-appointed publicist, and she announces to Kelsey, Josh, Maggie, and Malkie that Kelsey will be honoured as this year’s maverick at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards. Liza is missing from the picture as she’s at Charles’ enjoying a delicious home-cooked meal, a few kisses, and some reading time. She has been reading a manuscript written by Calvin Crigger, an ex-editor at Penguin and it’s a literary memoir about his drug addiction. The next day, she tells Kelsey it’s dark, but also has its humour at times, although Kelsey thinks he’s an asshole and that he will be a challenge, so she decides to pass. The pair then call Redmond (Michael Urie) to tell them they are passing, and he’s not happy as his client specifically wanted Millennial because of their Reese Witherspoon connection. Diana drops by Kelsey’s office after receiving a call from Lauren who is asking to meet with Diana, so she informs Diana and Liza about the award. Kelsey mentions that Lauren thinks Diana is cool, and this clearly makes Diana happy.

A Few Discoveries

Liza and Charles are having little moments in the office, before texting one another from across the room about their plans for that night. During their little dinner date at a quiet and dark restaurant, they run into Redmond so they try to cover by claiming she was bringing Charles a manuscript. The manuscript Liza so happens to have in her handbag is Calvin Crigger’s and then due to the situation, Liza has to leave. Since Charles is left alone now, Redmond tries to push the book further on Charles.

During this episode, we also see Diana and Enzo in bed at the end of their little romp around, and Diana mentions to Enzo afterwards about he’s tendency to “honk” during the big finale. Later on, Diana and Lauren are having drinks, and Lauren hopes to be her publicist also, except Diana doesn’t need one. Enzo picks Diana up, and Lauren recognises him from somewhere… Back at their apartment, Lauren shows Kelsey and Josh a vintage porn video—the first one she ever saw—and it just so happens Enzo was a honkin’ even back then.

A Stab In The Back

Kelsey receives a call from Redmond who is sending over the Crigger contract much to the confusion of Kelsey. It turns out Charles read the manuscript and sent an email saying Millennial is buying it. Kelsey confronts Liza about how Charles got the manuscript so Liza has to come clean and Kelsey believes it’s a big problem for her.

Diana, Kelsey, and Liza attend a meeting with self-made billionaire Quinn Tyler (Laura Benanti), who has written a book about women looking out for only themselves to succeed. After the revelation between Kelsey and Liza, Quinn’s words hit home and results in both of the girls being upset. Kelsey goes to see Charles and he says they’re going with Crigger and won’t be able to afford the Quinn Tyler book. Kelsey does a one-eighty and lets Charles know that’s she’s aware of his dinner with Liza…

A Declaration of Love

At the awards, Liza and Charles plan to talk afterwards, while Lauren approaches Diana about the video. She shows the video to Diana who is shocked, but Lauren managed to get the video down and gives the only copy to her on a USB, which results in an “I’ll call you” from Diana. Charles informs Kelsey that Crigger was desperate enough to work with Millennial that he’s essentially doing the book for free and she will get the money for Quinn’s book. However, he makes it very clear that she’s not to do what she did again.

Kelsey reluctantly says thank you about Liza going behind her back, which causes Liza to go into an eloquent speech about how she would never do that and they’ve had each other’s backs. If she had to choose between Kelsey and Charles, she’d choose Kelsey. This causes Kelsey to tear up, but before she has the chance to say anything, Lauren interrupts as they need someone else to introduce Kelsey. Thankfully, Quinn Tyler is there, however, she believes Kelsey should accept the award on her own. In a tear-inducing speech, Kelsey accepts the award for both herself and Liza as they are partners. Later on, Charles makes it clear that he doesn’t want anyone else knowing about their relationship since there’s a lot going on and that “nothing worth having comes easy”.

Kelsey (Hilary Duff) in Younger 5.09 ‘Honk If You’re Horny’

Overall Thoughts?

While many are pro-Josh or pro-Charles, I’m pro-Kelsey. I love the relationship Liza and Kelsey share and while it has certainly had rocky moments and the both of them have done questionable things, the pair always find their way back to one another. I’ll admit I even got a bit teary over Liza’s speech to Kelsey, especially after seeing Kelsey’s reaction because more than likely, Kelsey has never had words like that said to her. She’s been in relationships where she hasn’t fully been loved or appreciated for the person she is: Thad cheated on her, Bjornberg was married, Colin essentially used her, and Jake was like a little boy because he didn’t get his way. When she gave her speech and recognised Liza for all she’s done also, it was honestly one of the most touching things this series has done so far.

As for Charles and Liza, poor Liza is having to keep secrets once again and we’ve already seen before how people react to revelations down the track. Although most people know about Liza’s age now, I think it would be interesting for Diana to be copped with a double-whammy: finding out she’s with Charles and also her true age and history. It really could go either way, but I’d hope Diana would be the only person to just be like, so? Hopefully she would understand, and then perhaps we’ll see Liza and Diana spending more time together.
