The cast from Syfy’s The Magicians attended San Diego Comic-Con to talk all things season four!

San Diego Comic-Con has come around again once more and the fantasy TV series The Magicians has delivered multiple surprises for what is to come. The main cast of the series was present for the panel, including Jason Ralph, Stella Maeve, Hale Appleman, Olivia Taylor Dudley, and Summer Bishil, along with the series creators, Sera Gamble and John McNamara. They were joined by Felicia Day, who played Poppy in the last season, and she was the moderator of the panel. All of them brought the news of what to expect for the future of the series.

First of all, The Magicians will return for its fourth season in 2019! After the epic finale of the third season, we were left with multiple questions. The cast is currently filming the episodes, which will be released early 2019. At the beginning of the SDCC panel, they showed a recap of everything that happened in the last season, and then the cast continued to share some of their experiences while filming some of those episodes.

Hale Appleman surprised us all especially during the panel as he was very involved in his character, responding to the questions not as an actor but as Eliot. Upon his acting, a fan asked him how it felt to play Eliot’s sexuality. Hale answered “There weren’t characters like Eliot when I was a kid. There should be more queer characters in television so sexuality is not a topic of conversation. There should be more queer characters, period.” The audience burst into applause at his response.

Olivia Taylor Dudley confessed she would like to see Quentin and Alice back together. However, it seems that in the new season Olivia will be reconnecting with the Alice of season one. Though Olivia said she had a fun time playing Alice Niffin.

The creator Sara Gamble commented how hard it was to write the plot for the upcoming episodes. “At the season finale of a TV series…you just mess up as much as you want with all the characters. That way you keep the audience alert and you invite them to guess what is happening next. That’s why getting writer’s block while writing the script is not a bad thing. Actually, it is very good because it means the public also has no idea.”

The Magicians are known for having one musical episode each season. Even though they did not confirm if there will be one in the fourth season, they did mentioned artists like Britney Spears, Madonna, Prince, or Taylor Swift would be good options.

The fourth season of The Magicians will come in 2019 and it will have 13 new episodes. Although we still don’t have a trailer, the cast delivered a video in the form of a fake documentary where the actors seem to be affected with memory loss from their characters. Without a doubt, it is a very fun video to watch, in the true style of The Magicians!

For those who may not be aware of this series, it is based on Lev Grossman’s bestselling novels, which center on Quentin Coldwater and his 20-something friends. They are thrust into the unfamiliar world of the beautifully enchanting yet mysteriously dangerous Fillory—and places beyond—where they must draw upon their novice skills to save the existence of magic.

The new season will see the gang rally together again in an attempt to bring magic back. Our six heroes will board the Muntjac, a magical ship that will take them on their adventure to restore magic.

Joining this seasons cast is Supernatural fan favourite Felicia Day. She will play Poppy, a dragon expert who will be a familiar character for readers of the book series. Her character will be introduced as a Brakebills student who has had plenty of field experience and her expertise perhaps could be instrumental in bringing magic back.

Candis Cayne will return as the Fairy Queen and the deal Margo made with her to save their kingdom will see Eliot and Margo as the unwilling pawns of the Fairy Queen. The Fairy Queen has her own dark vision for Fillory’s future and whose demands on Margo tend to be particularly baffling and hilariously humiliating — which is what you’d expect from this typically whimsical, mysterious, and at times sadistic species.

The series is executive produced by John McNamara, Sera Gamble, Chris Fisher and Groundswell Productions’ Michael London and Janice Williams.

The 13-episode season kicks off January 10th at 9/10c on Syfy.
