Article contributed by Yakira Goldsberry

Season 6 of The Flash left a whole slew of mixed feelings in fans as the season ended abruptly, due to the sudden outbreak of COVID-19. With such a cliffhanger ending not at all typical like the endings of the other seasons, and with everything about the show changing post-crises, Season 6 was a rollercoaster of emotions, heartbreak, and betrayal. Hopefully, a lot of things will be answered in Season 7! Here are some highlights from Season 6.

Godspeed, Chester, Allegra, Nash and the Monitor

A lot of things happened all at once in the first few episodes of Season 6, some of which weren’t really explained. Like the fact that there were Godspeed replicas, so to speak, running around Central City, without the ability to speak. After the first episode, these faux speedsters never show up again, leaving fans questioning just what the writers of the show were planning to do with them, and whether or not they disappeared post-crisis.

With the fake Godspeeds comes a new member of the team, Chester P. Runk, an up and coming scientist with a quirky personality and more caffeine in his veins than blood. Chester also came with his own set of problems, creating black holes in the city with his mind. One of my favourite scenes involving Chester is when Barry runs into a black hole to reunite his mind with his body, and Cisco plays the song Flash by Queen. With Queen being one of my favourite artists, it was a glorious moment. I also just love Chester as a character, because not only does he add more diversity to the team, but he also has an endless amount of energy and enthusiasm, and an almost childlike wonder at all the things that the rest of the team consider to be normal.

Another great character that joins the team is Allegra Garcia, a meta who can not only see every kind of UV ray but can also control them. Cecile helps her get released from jail and her name cleared, and Allegra is hired by Iris as a reporter for the Central City Citizen. Allegra proves herself a vital member of the team over time, helping Iris as she digs into the criminal activities surrounding McCulloch Technologies.

And, of course, we mustn’t forget this season’s new Wells, Harrison ‘Nash’ Wells, who spends the entirety of the pre-Crisis episodes trying to find the Monitor and prove him to be a false god. Unlike Harry and Sherloque, Nash is an Indiana Jones-styled character, complete with tool belt, beige jacket and stylish hat. Over the course of the post-Crisis episodes, Nash’s and Allegra’s stories intertwine, as it’s revealed that Nash was a parental figure to his world’s Allegra, a girl who because of a mistake that Nash made.

At the end of the first episode, Into the Void, we see the return of the Monitor, who tells Barry and Iris that, instead of Crisis coming in 2024 like they believed, it’s coming in only a few months. Also, throughout the Crisis episodes, we learn more about who exactly the Monitor is, and exactly where he came from.

Bloodwork

In my personal opinion, Dr. Ramsey Rosso, a.k.a. Bloodwork, has been one of The Flash’s best bad guys, besides Eobard Thawne and Savatar. Ramsey is a doctor and friend of Caitlyn Snow, who loses his mother to HLH cancer. Because of this, and because he finds out that he’s dying of the same cancer, he becomes obsessed with finding a cure, ultimately turning himself into a twisted meta with the agenda to save the world by enslaving everyone to his will. Rosso also acts as a reflection of Barry, as both are destined to die, but instead of searching for a way to stop his demise, Barry instead learns to embrace it, knowing his sacrifice will save everyone.

Another thing that makes Bloodwork so great is that he believes that what he’s doing is the right thing. Nothing gets in the way of his mission, including the Hippocratic Oath. Rosso throws everything aside for his grand vision, centering his entire life’s purpose on curing the world, even if that means destroying it. He thinks that his actions are correct, therefore making his ambitions seem almost believable. That is, if you didn’t have a problem with turning into one of his ‘blood brothers’, which is basically just a kind of zombie. It was almost disappointing that Rosso was caught too easily and then put on a back burner for the rest of the show, while Eva McCulloch became the new villain.

The Last Temptation of Barry Allen

Parts One and Two of The Last Temptation of Barry Allen are my two favorite episodes of the entire season. Not only because of the excellent writing and development of Bloodwork, but also because of the character arch that they put Barry Allen through. And maybe because I’m a fan of all things depressing and heart-wrenching.

Rosso infects Barry with his blood, getting inside Barry’s mind and offering him a future where he doesn’t have to die, and where he could have everything he wants—a life where he can have his daughter, Nora, and the ability to bring others back to life. Barry fights against these temptations with the speed force in the guise of his mother at his side, but then gives in when the speed force tells him that everything Rosso says is the truth. Barry can have that life, but it would only be a half life.

It was interesting seeing Barry fall into darkness, giving in to Rosso’s temptation and serving him as the Dark Flash. It gave Barry a more human-like aspect, instead of him fighting back the temptation and moving on like he usually does. Of course, in the end, Barry beats back Rosso’s influence and he is able to defeat and capture Rosso, where he is then put taken to Argus. Which then leads into the more frustrating problem of Crisis.

Crisis on Infinite Earths

In the big crossover event, so many things happen that it would take me all day to talk about, but there are some things that we can’t ignore, like that fact that Oliver Queen, a.k.a. Green Arrow dies in order to save Kara and Barry’s lives. However, despite his sacrifice, Barry must still die in order to save the multiverse. Throughout the first two episodes, the tension is high as the heroes travel from one earth to another, collecting together the Paragons that must stand against the Anti-Monitor.

Barry and Black Lighting fight together to destroy the Anti-Monitor’s anti-matter cannon that’s eating away at the multiverse, and they find out that Barry Allen of Earth-90 is powering the machine. Barry of Earth-1 tries to sacrifice himself, just like he was preparing himself for all this time, but Earth-90 Barry stops him, instead sacrificing himself so that Earth-1 Barry can live out the rest of his days. It was a sad and poignant moment, especially for those who have watched the original 90’s Flash TV show. Personally, to me, it kind of felt like they were selling Barry’s character short. After all, they had been leading up to this moment for so long, and the show prepared the viewers for the death of the protagonist, only for someone else to take his place. It made everything feel a bit disjointed afterwards.

But, moving on from that moment, it turns out that Earth-90 Barry’s sacrifice is too late, and the Paragons are sent to the Vanishing Point by Pariah (Nash) as the last surviving members of the multiverse. And in complete Lex Luther fashion, he uses the Book of Destiny to make himself replace Earth-96’s Clark Kent as the Paragon of Truth.

Long story short, the Paragons end up getting stuck in the Vanishing Point, with Barry missing. He comes back several months later, having been inside the speed force looking for a way to escape all this time. Oliver comes back as the Spectre and tells Barry that the only way for them to escape and create a new earth is if Barry takes all of the Paragons into the speed force.

Everything comes to a head when the Paragons converge in the Anti-Monitor’s world and finally defeat him, using their joint gifts to create a new world, called Earth Prime. Central City, National City and Gotham City are now all on one earth, with other iconic places such as Gorilla City.

Eva McCulloch

After Crisis, Iris continues to chase down Mr. Carver, the owner of McCulloch Technologies, hoping to expose him in trafficking and using metas. Everything looks like Mr. Carver is going to be the new bad gut with Bloodwork locked up at Argus. That is, until we meet Eva McCulloch, who’s trapped inside her own mirror. Or is she? Piece by piece her plan is revealed—she wants to take revenge on Carver, and nothing can stop her. At first, she tries to tell the Flash that they’re on the same side, but Barry won’t listen because of events I talk about below. And right when it seems like the Flash and his team, and Eva are going at it head-to-head, the season ends with nineteen episodes instead of twenty-six as they usually do.

I’m not really sure how I feel about Eva. She starts out wanting only revenge on her husband who used and sold her tech as his own, but her agenda slowly shifts over time to ‘wanting to save the world’. She can’t really be classified as a hero, but I wouldn’t exactly call her a villain either.

Mirror-Iris

Right from the start of Post-Crisis, Iris is pulled into the mirror at McCulloch Technologies and when she finds her way out, it seems that everything is fine. Except, it’s not. Instead, a fake version of Iris is running around Central City at the beck and call of Eva. And all this time, Barry thinks that Mirror-Iris is the real Iris, while all of the viewers quickly find out that they are not one and the same.

It was almost painful to watch Barry feeling like something was different about Iris, but then not trusting his instincts and shrugging it off as Iris growing as a person. Almost every episode that Barry feels something off, I just wanted to yell at the screen, “Trust your instincts, Barry!!”

He doesn’t learn that Mirror-Iris isn’t really his wife until she kicks him out in a very heartbreaking scene. A lot of Barry and Iris’s relationship was heartbreaking in the last few episodes, as Mirror-Iris longs to have a real life and just wants to live. Still, she and the mirror versions of Kamilla and Singh free Eva, resulting in Mirror-Iris’s death, and giving us fans an equally heartrending scene as Barry holds the dying replica of his wife in his arms, then makes a promise to his real wife that no matter what, he will get her out.

There were a lot of other points involved in Season 6 of The Flash, like Ralph’s search and complicated relationship with Sue Dearbon and the sad new backstory for Hartley Rathaway, a.k.a. the Pied Piper, as well as Nash post-Crisis being connected to all the other Wells—including Eobard Thawne, a.k.a. Reverse Flash, but as from what I’ve seen of the previews of Season 7, it looks to be mostly centered on Barry’s attempt to stop Eva and save Iris from the mirror, I thought it best to point out the biggest highlights leading up to what I hope will become another epic season of The Flash.

Season 6 really had its ups and downs, with most of post-Crisis feeling like a different season altogether and someone disjointed from pre-Crisis, but overall, it was a heart-stopping tale of love and sacrifice.

I hope that in this upcoming season, the faux speedsters, the issue of Bloodwork, the promise of baby Nora, and the problem of Ralph and Sue are finally resolved.

The CW released the Season 5 trailer for The Flash at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 and it features the new villain Cicada, Barry and Iris’ daughter from the future, Nora West-Allen, and a Flash ring!

At the end of season 4, after defeating Clifford DeVoe/The Thinker, Barry and the rest of The Flash gang celebrated not only saving the world, but the birth of Joe and Cecile’s newborn daughter, Jenna. However, the celebrations were interrupted by a mysterious stranger crashing the party who revealed herself to be Nora West-Allen, Bary and Iris’ daughter from the future, and she’s now stuck while also needing her parents help.

The trailer features a very worried Barry who says, “Nora shouldn’t be here. She could Marty McFly herself right out of existence. She needs to be with her parents 30 years from now. Not us now.” However, Nora also brings with her the highly anticipated Flash ring, which is a “fan favourite” according to Nora.

During the panel, executive producer Todd Helbing teased that there will “be a lot of deaths this season.” Some other highlights from the panel for the upcoming season included a LGBTQ character, an episode featuring both Gorilla Grodd and King Shark in the second half of Season 5, learning why and how Killer Frost got her powers, and Cisco’s powers will be challenged in a perilous situation.

Tom Cavanaugh talked about his new character, “we’re going to kick off the season with a newer Wells who has come to join these people.” Sherloque Wells is “a very intelligent human being who is maybe not to be trusted.”

The CW also made the announcement that Chris Klein (American Pie) would be playing this season’s big bad, Cicada, who is described as a “grizzled, blue-collar everyman whose family has been torn apart by metahumans.” He’s the show’s second non-speedster Big Bad, following Season 4’s The Thinker. In DC comics lore, Cicada starts out as David Hersch—he murders his wife during a thunderstorm and then attempted to take his own life, only to be struck by lightning. This then gives him the ability to absorb the life force of others and during this, he has a vision that signals his own immortality and eventually the resurrection of his wife. However, Helbing explained that Cicada is not so much a cult leader like the comics, but instead “his powers present a challenge for Team Flash that they’ve never had to deal with before.”

The Flash returns for Season 5 on Tuesday October 9th at 8/7c with the Season 2 premiere of Black Lightning afterwards.

This announcement means Supernatural has been picked up for its 14th season and it will continue its streak of the longest-running series in both The CW and previously The WB’s history. That being said, with so many renewals, cuts will have to be made eventually. While we love Supernatural, could this be the final season or will they wrap on Season 15? We will find out this time next year!

Greg Berlanti’s five superhero dramas have been renewed—the network will create a seventh season of Arrow, a fifth season of The Flash, a fourth season for both Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and a second season for their new drama Black Lightning, which also airs weekly on Netflix for international fans.

The popular Riverdale series will be returning for a third season (no surprise there with how fast it grew in popularity on Netflix with international fans), plus another new CW series Dynasty will be back for more drama, hair pulling and glorious outfits. Jane The Virgin is back for season 5, but could we be nearing the end of the series? I personally think this could be a final season as it just doesn’t feel the same anymore after their 5 year jump.

Rounding up the renewals is Crazy Ex-Girlfriend with a fourth season. However, after the announcement, co-creator and star Rachel Bloom tweeted that the show had been picked up for a “final” season—which wasn’t stated in The CW’s announcement. Bloom and co-creator Aline Brosh McKenna have previously spoken about the series only having a four-season plan, so perhaps this is one that will face the chopping blocks to make way for some new content?

We will find out about renewals for Life Sentence, iZombie, The 100, and Valor in May, but if you ask me, can The 100 really be getting another season? As for iZombie, I love the series, but I don’t think it has ever received the popularity it has deserved. Then for Life Sentence and Valor, these seemed like series that would get cut after one season when they were announced…but I could be wrong!

As we said, The CW does need to make way for new television series and they did recently announce that they would expand their primetime viewing to six nights (Sunday to Friday) come October this year when all the series start back up again… Despite this great change, we definitely are in need of some fresh content. Perhaps some superheroes may find themselves wanting to hang up their spandex soon?

What show are you most excited for to return? Do you think any shows will be getting their final season? Tell us in the comments below!

Written by Melissa Platt

The Justice League are the most well-known group of the DC universe and many have been waiting a long time for a Justice League to come to theatres, and luckily, it is almost here! With high anticipation for the film, many fans have been analysing trailers and thinking about what could possibly be lying ahead for the film and this has led to a few popular theories about what we may see!

If you have any theories about this movie, we’d love to hear them! Tell us in the comments below!

Darkseid Will Be Introduced

This super-villain is common foe of Superman with a cameo Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen #134 (1970) followed by his first full role in Forever People #1 (1971). Darkseid wants to conquer the world (like most villains) and to eliminate all superhumans. We already know he will eventually play a big role in the future DC films as it has already been confirmed that his servant, Steppenwolf, is the main villain of Justice League, so what’s to say Darkseid won’t make an appearance? Perhaps after the big fight scene we may learn if his arrival is impending.

Green Lantern Joins The Team

If you know even just a little about the Justice League, then you most likely know Green Lantern is a member and some believe it to be strange that he isn’t in the upcoming film. Green Lantern’s first appearance with the Justice League of America was in The Brave and The Bold #28 (released in 1960) and continued to be a member from then on. DC has announced that there will be a new Green Lantern and the film is scheduled to come out in 2020, although many fans think it would be a mistake to wait that long. However, with Aquaman, The Flash, and the often forgotten Cyborg making their first appearance with their origin stories coming later, it seems unlikely we will see him in this film.

A Tie Into The Multiverse

The CW’s The Flash and Arrow, alongside its growing list of spin-off television series, is known as the Arrowverse and it is connected to the multiverse. The multiverse is just an infinite number of realities that then have an infinite number of the DC superheroes, which is used to create different versions of the same characters and elements such as Clark Kent and Dark Clark Kent in The CW’s Smallville (2001-2011). All of this leads fans to think it will tie-in with the multiverse because of how Batman receives a warning from the Flash about the future. So potentially, this means we may see different versions of the main characters of the Justice League, which is always fun to see the actors play usually a darker version of themselves or portray the character with a different personality.

The Movie Will Represent The Flash and Flashpoint

Flashpoint is a popular DC comics storyline involving Barry Allen, or the Flash, going back in time and drastically altering the timeline of events causing the New 52 relaunch. Many say we have already seen a Flashpoint consequence in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, so we could very well see another occur in the Justice League movie. If we do see another consequence in the film, this could lead to a multitude of opened doors for this storyline.

Hawkman and Hawkgirl Will Make A Guest Appearance

Again, if you are familiar with Justice League, you may be aware there was a Justice Society of America before the Justice League of America. Hawkman and Hawkgirl were part of the JSA with Hawkman as their ‘leader’, so it would make sense for them to appear. In the trailer where we see the Amazons and Atlanteans battle it out against Darkseid’s Parademons, if you look closely you can see two figures with wings flying high in the sky, thus leading many to believe that they could be Hawkman and Hawkgirl.

The Movie Will Take Place In Two Different Realities

A large majority of the DC universe is set in alternate realities so it is highly likely DC will cross over between two in one movie, sooner or later, and perhaps it might be this movie. In the trailer released at San Diego Comic Con, we see the Batmobile chasing the Parademons, but then a few seconds later, the sky changes and it remains the same chase. Could it be that this film will take place in two alternate realities? Only time will tell!

What do you think about these theories? Tell us in the comments and don’t forget to catch Justice League in theatres, which is out this week!

The speedster returns to our screens for the Season 4 premiere of The Flash on The CW. The Flash will be “reborn” this season and it will be taking on a much lighter tone unlike its previous season.

In Season 3, Barry Allen and the rest of The Flash cast saw a mostly devastating reaction occur after Barry went back in time to save his mother and thus creating the Flashpoint timeline. It was here that Barry caught a glimpse of Savitar killing his beloved Iris, so himself and his team spent the majority of the back half of Season 3 attempting to change history (again) and to stop this new speedster.

Eventually the team discovered Savitar to be a futuristic and emotionally damaged version of Barry. But after the big defeat, Barry was forced to sacrifice himself to the Speed Force in order to save their world.

However, despite his sacrifice, Barry will be coming back very quickly in Season 4 and donning his trademark enthusiastic nature like he was back in Season 1. This season will also be different with the group facing their first non-speedster big bad who comes in the form of Clifford DeVoe. Also known as The Thinker, this character is played by Neil Sandilands (The 100) who uses his technologically enhanced genius to outsmart our favourite speedster.

Joining the Season 4 baddies is Ralph Dibny/The Elongated Man (Hartley Sawyer) in a recurring role beginning in Episode 4, along with The Mechanic (Kim Engelbrecht), Amunet Black/Blacksmith (Katee Sackhoff), and Gypsy’s dad, Breacher (Danny Trejo).

Another few exciting plots and scenes we will see this season include another four-part Arrowverse crossover, which will include Barry and Iris’ wedding; Caitlin Snow returns but she’s not the Caitlin we all know and love; Cisco and Gypsy’s relationship continues to develop, but with her dad coming into the mix, who know what will happen; and lastly, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) will be dropping by in Episode 5 for a bachelorette party!

The Flash Season 4 premieres today on The CW at 8/7c.

When Season 2 of The Flash ended, viewers were both cautious and excited to see the famous Flash storyline, Flashpoint, brought to the small screen for the first time. It was this storyline that The Flash attempted in its premiere episode of Season 3 and although the episode was well-received, Flashpoint only lasted one episode with Barry returning the timeline to normal. It was this one episode, however, that formed the season to come.

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD

After Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) returned from the altered timeline, it was discovered that his life and Central City had been irreversibly changed. The first episodes of the season were true examples of what The Flash has become since its arrival back in 2014. The episodes mixed humour with some key emotional moments as Barry was forced to face the ramifications of his actions. The Flash’s team also returned once more with Cisco Ramone (Carlos Valdes), Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), Iris West (Candice Patton) and Det. Joe West (Jesse L. Martin).

This season saw a few new additions with Harry replaced by H.R Wells (Tom Cavanagh), yet another Wells from a different Earth, along with Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) and Julian Alpert (Tom Felton) in recurring roles.

In the beginning of the season, The Flash had some truly fine character moments. Wally West began his training as Kid Flash and led to some entertaining scenes that involved him and Barry competing plus a variety of more serious scenes where Barry mentored him in the ways of becoming a hero. A more sombre character arc was Cisco’s discovery in finding Barry had killed his brother by changing the timeline. But it was the discovery that Iris West was going to die at the hands of Savitar, the self-titled God of Speed and Barry’s latest nemesis, that truly shaped the direction of the season.

The Big Bad Savitar

The mystery of who Savitar was and the race to save Iris’ life consumed Barry as the season progressed forward. Savitar proved to be an exciting villain when he first graced the screen with his speed and strength outmatched Barry’s, he was clearly a force to be reckoned with. But although he was the driving force behind Barry for the majority of the season, his story was left until the last three episodes.

The big reveal that Savitar was actually a time-remnant created by Barry after Iris’ death felt like it came a little too late in the season. There wasn’t enough time to explore the complexity of a villainous Barry Allen, something that was actually quite interesting in concept. The Flash still used the time they had to provide an interesting view of Savitar and in the finale, they placed him in amongst the other members of the team and it was these interactions that truly shone. If the season had given more of these exchanges in the lead up to Iris’ death, it would have greatly benefited the show.

Fare Thee Well Iris?

Using Iris’ death as a motivator for Barry was one of the finer touches of the season. The plot forced Barry to face not only his own weaknesses, but the possibility of what his future self could become if Iris died. It opened up the chance for Wally to take the limelight as he was forced to become faster than Barry in order to save Iris. Her death loomed over the team and provided some core emotional scenes, particularly between Joe and Iris, as well as leading to Barry and Iris’ proposal.

The penultimate episode provided a shocking and emotional scene as Barry crumbled over Iris’ body with his inability to save her fulfilling Savitar’s prophecy. The downside to this scene was that it was instantly reversed in the starting moments of the next episode and the death ended up being that of H.R. Wells instead, leading to a nice tie-off for his arc as his story had developed from useless to team advisor to a sacrificial saviour.

Killer Frost Is Back!

As well as seeing Iris’ future, Barry, with Cisco’s help, discovered that Caitlin was to become Killer Frost. Over the course of the season, newcomer Julian Alpert and Caitlin had become close and it was good to see that it was this relationship, formed because Caitlin used her Killer Frost powers, was ultimately what led to her becoming Killer Frost. The complexity of the character to the struggle between Caitlin and Frost was what brought this character to life on the screen and it was this fight that made some of the final episode the better of the season.

The last five minutes of Season 3 provided a strong moment for Barry and the team. Having freed Wally and Jay from the Speed Force, Barry is forced to take their role as prisoner and he says it is his penance for causing all this with Flashpoint. This was a nice way to tie off the end of Barry’s season long arc and provided many exciting premises for Season 4 with Wally now taking on the Flash title.

Season 3 Deserves A Round of Applause

Despite the threat of Iris’ death and Savitar, The Flash still managed to bring in some great standalone episodes. The Gorilla Grodd arc was excellent with great visuals and a formidable foe for Barry to face and the Supergirl crossover was a nice change of pace for the show; a humorous way for the cast to show their musical potential. The Flash also introduced some great new characters, like Gypsy (Jessica Camacho), Cisco’s new love, and classic Flash villains such as Mirror Master (Gray Damon) and The Rival (Todd Lasance), as well as bringing back some familiar faces in the form of Jesse Quick (Violett Beane) and her father, Harry.

Both the cast and crew of Season 3 of The Flash need to be applauded on a job well done. Each of the core cast had to play many different versions of their characters, as Barry jumped from timeline to timeline, and each character was strengthened by their performances. Gustin and Panabaker especially did an excellent job in playing not only Barry and Caitlin, but the villains Savitar and Killer Frost respectively.

Although this season of The Flash had its ups and downs, Savitar provided to be an entertaining foe. The Flash has always excelled at blending humour with an emotional storyline and this season was no different. Despite the tone becoming darker towards the end, it suited the storyline and the show benefited from Barry’s inner struggle.

This weekend, the CW announced at the Television Critics Association press tour the early renewals of seven CW series.

The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, DC’S Legends of Tomorrow, Supernatural, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin have all been renewed for the 2017-2018 season.

CW President, Mark Pedowitz spoke about the renewals. “Over the past several seasons, The CW has built a schedule of proven performers, from our lineup of DC superheroes, to critically acclaimed comedies, to sci-fi dramas,” Pedowtiz said. “Early pickups of these seven series now allow our producers to plan ahead for next season, and gives us a solid base to build on for next season, with original scripted series to roll out all year-long.”

However, there has been no word about The Originals, with its counterpart The Vampire Diaries ending this year. The fate of mid-season shows such as The 100 and iZombie won’t be known until later in the year, along with new shows, Frequency and No Tomorrow.

It was also announced at TCA that CW has revived Constantine, which was cancelled after one season on NBC. The CW version will be an animated series on CW Seed, and will be voiced by Matt Ryan, who played John Constantine in the NBC version.
