High school is the foundation for the rest of your life. There’s only one chance at a first impression, so work hard. Put your heart out there. And don’t go in to high school without back-up.

Netflix continues to churn out more original content this year and the latest addition to the streaming service is a new series which focuses on a group of kids as they head off to high school.

On My Block is a coming-of-age comedy about four bright and street-savvy friends navigating their way through the triumph, pain and the newness of high-school set in LA’s South Central neighbourhood. Judging by the trailer, we’re definitely in for a jam-packed soundtrack and quick-paced storytelling that is fun, but yet filled with serious undertones, along with some fresh-faced talent.

Similarities can be seen between this series and Showtime’s The Chi that was released earlier this year, but the Netflix original focuses on a younger group of kids and it adopts more of a lighter tone. Plus, it’s always great to see more programming, especially a Netflix original, to feature more of a diverse cast with the series set in a predominantly Hispanic and African-American part of South Central L.A.

Co-created by Awkward creator Lauren Iungerich and All Eyez On Me writers Eddie Gonzalez & Jeremy Haft. The series stars Diego Tinoco (Teen Wolf) as Cesar, Jason Genao  (Netflix’s The Get Down) as Ruby, Sierra Capri as Monse, Brett Gray as Jamal, Ronnie Hawk as Olivia, and Jessica Marie Garcia  (Disney’s Liv and Maddie) as Jasmin.

The 10-episode season hits Netflix today (March 16th)!
