Makeup brands have definitely not been shy of this trend. Storybook Cosmetics is one brand that is all about nerdy and pop culture. They have a line of Harry Potter Liquid Lipsticks in colours inspired by the Hogwarts houses. They have eye shadow palettes inspired by movies, like Mean Girls and Harry Potter, and they have rose brushes that came out around the time that Beauty and the Beast came out. They also have brushes that look like wands from Harry Potter!

Another brand that has done some collaborations with some nerdy topics is Besame Cosmetics. They have done collections with Snow White involving lipstick that is a recreation of Snow White’s lip colour and the colour of lipstick that was popular doing the release of the movie, Avengers which involved some bright coloured eyeshadow in colours of all the infinity stones and lip glosses names after the infinity stones.

Besame also created collection of lipsticks that were inspired from the TV show Agent Carter, an eye shadow palette with name referring to the show and a translucent powder with the symbol of Carter’s pin. Besame is a company that is all about retro makeup so all the collections have a very retro twist to them. So for some of the collections, it makes sense to do these collaborations in which they took place back in time, around the 1940s and 1950s.

Another brand that has done some nerdy collabs has been Lorac. They have come out with a Pirates of the Caribbean which had a lipstick and lip gloss set, a face palette and an eyeshadow palette. They also had a Beauty and the Beast collection, which had a liquid lipstick set, blush set and an eye shadow palette, around the time off the movie’s release.

MAC has even done some really cool collections like a Cinderella collection, when the remake came out, and a Star Trek Collection. Even some drug store brands have jumped on trends like how L’oreal came out with a Disney Collection inspired by Minnie Mouse. Covergirl came out with a Star Wars collection that was around when the last Star Wars movie was released.

It seems as if this has been a gold mine from some companies because it has become more and more common for whoever uses makeup and loves nerdy/geeky things, then they are more inclined to buy these products, as a way to support the brand and the nerdy/geeky thing they are collaborating with. The money must be great since even drugstore makeup brands are also jumping in on the nerdy band wagon. So not only is Geek Chic cool, it is also a very profitable business!

Personally, book related gifts are simply a must if you love everything literature and honestly, there are so many great gifts for the summer. I took to the land of Instagram to find out what my followers were excited to get their hands on this summer.

One gift I fell in LOVE with was a gift my boyfriend got me for our 2 year anniversary, a bracelet with a Harry Potter sorting hat. And the Harry Potter fans rejoice! This bracelet is absolutely stunning and I wear it everyday to not only remind me of the magic world we dream of but also because well, what girl doesn’t love thoughtful gifts! I love the jewellery by @ohpandaeyes as everything is handmade with love and she has the cutest necklaces and earrings.

2. LIGHT READER

Have you ever sat in your room or outside as the sun starts to set, hello I was trying to read! The solution to your problem are book lights! These lights which clip on your pages are simply a lifesaver when it comes to those warm summer nights where you can just relax outside and read without straining your eyes and can also give you a better reading experience.

3. SUMMER TANK TOPS

What’s to say that your summer vibes need to be full of bikinis and shorts when you can get your own book-related tank tops and t-shirts. I’ve come to love my Beauty and the Beast and Harry Potter inspired summer lovin’ shirts as they are not only fashionable, but nothing feels better than representing your favourite fandoms!

Carly Coombe, who goes by @beautynherbooks on Instagram, has been running her bookstagram account for four years and has been buying book related gifts ever since.

“My favourite book related gift is actually one I bought for myself when I first started bookstagram,” says Coombe. “I bought a long sleeve shirt with a quote from Cassandra Clare stating ‘it was books that made me feel that perhaps I wasn’t completely alone.’ For summer, I love shops that capture the essence of summer that is bright colours, tropical scents and anything that screams I AM ON VACATION WHILE READING.”

Now, let’s talk about those sweet smells that we are in dying need of during those long summer nights as if the natural smell of the open pages isn’t enough. Katelin, who goes by @pretty_little_library on Instagram says her favourite book related gifts would be pillows with either characters or bookish quotes on them. “In the summer, I’m drawn to bright colours on either the design or the merchandise,” says Katelin. “If they’re fun or bright, I’m there!”

8. TAPESTRIES

In the light of summer, tapestries are a great way to shield yourself from the gloomy books that may get you down in the dumps of a 2 star books or even if you’re in a reading slump. With quotes from your favourite books, bright coloured designs and the biggest wall towel you can think of, tapestries are the perfect way to hang loose and enjoy a backdrop to your already comfortable reading experience.

9. TOTE BAGS

Now how are you supposed to carry around all these book goodies? With a tote bag of course! Many shops carry tote bags with fun sayings and plenty of room to carry a few books and of course your favourite tumbler with that cute Harry Potter spell has to be filled with your green tea right? Many subscription boxes actually incorporate a small tote bag now because well, with all those bookish goodies, how else will you carry around everything?
