The game of clues left by her ancestor Evelyn has helped Benny find pieces of the pirate treasure that’s linked to the curse. But the game changes when she discovers someone else has been following the clues—and has even taken some of them!

Now, with both mortal and immortal enemies closing in to steal the island’s secret and claim the fortune, Benny has no choice. To save her friends, she must summon a deadly and supernatural pirate queen!

Five Clues about The Vanishing Isle

If you’ve finished Isle of Ever and The Curse Breaker and that cliffhanger left you on the edge of your seat, here are five clues about The Vanishing Isle to hold you over till book three drops March 2, 2027. (Warning: Spoilers below for those who haven’t finished The Curse Breaker yet!)

If you thought that bombshell about Benny’s dad was a big one, wait till you hear what secrets Captain Kimble and Aggie have been keeping from everyone. It’s got to do with the treasure and breaking the curse, which will not be as easy to end as Benny thinks.

Winks the cat is the only one who can get on and off the ‘isle of ever’ and somehow this kitty has been alive for two hundred years. How is this possible? Aggie has all the answers.

The Terrys and the Rudds have “history” literally and figuratively, but there might be a connection between their two families that hasn’t been discovered yet…

In The Curse Breaker, we learn that Grace has enjoyed her immortality and pretended to be many individuals over the last two hundred years. The one common thread is that all her identities have a name that begins with “C.” Who does this “C” refer to? The answer is more important than anyone realizes yet.

The much talked about pirate queen, Lady Adrienne, plays a huge role in The Vanishing Isle. Captain Kimble sent the queen a piece of the treasure for safe keeping and to save her life. Did it reach her before her death? If so, is she still alive and does she have the piece of treasure needed to help break the curse? Where is she now? And what does the green gemstone ring Benny stole from Grace have to do with the pirate queen and the treasure?

The game is far from over. In fact, it’s only just begun.

Having finally reached the Isle of Ever, Everly “Benny” Benedict thinks she’s won the game of clues her ancestor Evelyn Terry set out for her in her will. Only she can’t prove it yet―not until her new friends are safe from the curse that has kept them trapped for centuries!

And now there’s a new game. It turns out that Evelyn has more secrets in her diary and another task for Benny: to find the lost piece of pirate treasure needed to break the curse once and for all. It won’t be easy. One of her best friends has betrayed her; the kids from the island are just discovering twenty-first- century life, and a mysterious stranger mentioned in Evelyn’s diary has somehow turned up in present-day Greenport.

Benny has to figure it all out in just a few days. If time runs out, someone else can claim the inheritance, and the Isle of Ever will disappear again for another two hundred years!

Q: What can you tell us about book two in the ISLE OF EVER series?

A: Readers were left with so many questions at the end of book one. I can promise they’ll get lots of answers–and be left with many new questions!– when they read book two, THE CURSEBREAKER. I can’t wait for them to meet a new pirate in this story. Her name is Grace, and unlike Captain Kimble, she is not ready to give up treasure that makes her immortal.

Q: For readers who haven’t read ISLE OF EVER yet, and want to before they read THE CURSEBREAKER, what would you say it’s about?

A: I’d tell them it’s an adventure-mystery that has a dash of Pirates of the Caribbean sprinkled with National Treasure. The main character, a girl named Benny Benedict, has learned she’s inherited a huge fortune from an ancestor that she can only collect if she finds a mysterious island off the coast of Long Island, New York, that doesn’t exist on any maps. It’s filled with riddles, and clues, is told in two timelines (1825 and 2025) and has a mystery I have spent years thinking about.

Q: Can you spill one secret about THE CURSEBREAKER for us? Just one?

A: Look closely at the cover of the new book for clues! Like with the ISLE OF EVER cover, all the items on THE CURSEBREAKER cover tie into the mystery. Study the cover and you’ll get a headstart at cracking book two’s riddles!

The post Exclusive Cover Reveal: The Curse Breaker by Jen Calonita appeared first on The Nerd Daily.

Everly “Benny” Benedict and her mom have always managed to get by, though they’re broke most of the time. But all that could change. Benny’s just learned she’s the sole heir to the vast fortune of Evelyn Terry, a mysterious ancestor from the 1800s!

There’s a catch, though. First Benny needs to play―and win―a game: following clues that are more than a century old, she must find her way to the tiny island Evelyn wrote about in her diary. It was somewhere off the shoreline of Evelyn’s home town, but according to legend, it vanished long ago and hasn’t appeared on maps for hundreds of years. Yet Benny has only a couple weeks to locate it.

If she’s successful, she’ll collect the inheritance. But what if there’s more than a fortune at stake in this game? What if Benny has to break an ancient curse to win?

Written by the author of Mirror, Mirror and Conceal, Don’t Feel, Jen Calonita’s latest twist is sure to delight and surprise. We chat with author Jen Calonita about Go the Distance, book recommendations, writing, and much more!

Hi, Jen! Can you tell our readers a bit about yourself?

Hi! I’m a Disney-loving girl who pre-pandemic found it fun to train to run half-marathons in the Disney Parks — and always in costume. I ran dressed as Princess Anna from Frozen long before I wrote CONCEAL, DON’T FEEL. But I wouldn’t call myself a runner. I only run if you promise I can wear a costume and take photos with characters.

After the chaos that was 2020, have you set any goals for this year? If so, how are they going so far?

It’s funny because I was just talking to a friend about this, but when the world shut down last year, I was finishing GO THE DISTANCE. And deadlines are deadlines, even when the world is upside down. I found myself trying to write when my whole family was home, my kids were virtual, and we were trying to get groceries delivered to avoid going to the store and I still had to write. But I actually think having that deadline saved me. I spent my writing hours with Hercules and Meg and it was such a great escape that I’m so grateful for. This year I find everyone is semi-back to school and at work and I’m trying to stay as disciplined as I was last spring…and I’m having so-so results! I’ve had to start giving myself new deadlines to get all my work done.

Quick lightning round! Tell us the first book you ever remember reading, the one that made you want to become an author, and one that you can’t stop thinking about!

It was Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume. It was the book that changed everything for me. I went from a reluctant reader to a lover of books who wanted to read everything Judy Blume. I loved anything with some comedy in it and once I started reading Judy I thought, what would I write about if I could be a writer? Then in fourth grade I wrote a paper about a genie giving me three wishes and one was to be a writer for young readers.

When did you first discover your love for writing?

I’d say fourth grade. That’s when I first started thinking about writing. I started out always writing about the weather! Every story I wrote had a blizzard, or a hurricane or some massive thunderstorm causing all sorts of trouble! Then I moved on to writing short stories for my friends. They loved asking me to do that.

Your new novel, Go the Distance: A Twisted Tale, is out April 6th 2021! If you could only describe it in five words, what would they be?

Quest, Hell, Heroes, Myths, Love

What can readers expect?

I love Megara and I always wondered what her backstory was. We meet her in Hercules and she’s sold her soul to Hades, but who was she before that happened? That’s what the reader gets to discover in this story.

Can you tell us about any challenges you faced while writing and how you were able to overcome them?

Well, since I was finishing the story during the beginnings of lockdown I had to give up my office to my kids who were on zoom school. And then my husband was locked away in the bedroom doing work from home and I felt like I had nowhere to go! I wound up taking an alcove in the house, buying a small desk on wayfair and making an office out of it for zooms and writing. I just needed to carve out some space for myself and that helped a ton.

If it’s not too spoilery, were there any favourite moments or characters you really enjoyed writing?

How can you not love writing Hades? I spent weeks with James Woods’ voice in my head. And then Danny Devito as Phil is a lot of fun to write as well!

What’s the best and the worst writing advice you have received?

Best advice — to write your story straight through and THEN go back and revise. Get to know your characters and your story before you start changing them. Worst advice — that as a proper writer you have to write every day. If the pandemic has taught me anything, it’s that you need to roll with the punches. Write often, but it doesn’t have to be daily or at a specific time of day. Just write!

What’s next for you?

I’m actually starting a new series for Disney called the Lost Legends series and the first book is The Rise of Flynn Rider, which will be out this fall. Tangled fans will remember Flynn’s name is actually Eugene Fitzherbert and this book follows Eugene’s journey at age 12. I’ve loved writing this book.

Lastly, do you have any book recommendations for our readers?

I’ve read so many great books during this past year and tried to mix it up from romantic and funny (every Christina Lauren book) to the unexpected (Miss Benson’s Beetle by Rachel Joyce is a recent favorite to thrillers (This is Not the Jess Show by Anna Carey was excellent!)
