Twelve-year-old Violet Summers draws charts and graphs to make sense of her world. A pie chart of Violet’s life includes her best friend McKenzie, her fun-loving dad, annoying mom, a secret talent for math, and a profound love of pie.

When Violet’s dad moves out on the same day Violet gets the part in the school play her best friend wanted, it’s as if someone suddenly cut a big, jagged chunk from Violet’s personal pie. Other changes are more gradual but just as confusing: Violet’s dad completely disappears from her life, Violet is somehow becoming friends with McKenzie’s mortal enemy, and the dress rehearsal of their play goes impossibly wrong.

Violet’s life will never be the same. But with the help of a new friend, an old crush, and growing confidence, there’s a chance Violet’s pie chart of life can grow deeper, richer, and sweeter.
