A new month means new shows to watch and binge! June is a mixed bag of new television series from an immortal feeding off the souls of children in NOS4A2, to Kevin Bacon playing a Boston Cop in the 1980’s in City On A Hill. Netflix naturally has a few new series being released including Jon Favreau’s The Chef Show, an Arabic supernatural drama by the name of Jinn, a new chapter in the Tales of the City series that began in the 1990’s, and a new comedic series, Mr. Iglesias.
Meanwhile, STARZ brings Daniel O’Malley’s urban fantasy novel The Rook to life so expect espionage, a secret society, and supernatural abilities. The month also sees familiar faces on the small screen including singer and actor Zendaya in Euphoria, Miles Teller in Too Old To Die Young, and Russell Crowe in The Loudest Voice.

NOS4A2
Based on Joe Hill’s bestselling supernatural horror novel, NOS4A2 tells the story of Charlie Manx, a seductive immortal who feeds off the souls of children, then deposits what remains of them into Christmasland – an icy, twisted Christmas village of Manx’s imagination where every day is Christmas Day and unhappiness is against the law. Manx finds his whole world threatened when a young woman in New England discovers she has a dangerous gift. Starring Zachary Quinto (Star Trek) and Ashleigh Cummings (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries). Premieres June 2nd on AMC.
Perpetual Grace, LTD.
Perpetual Grace, LTD. is a 10-episode modern noir drama, which follows James, a young grifter, as he attempts to prey upon Pastor Byron Brown, who turns out to be far more dangerous than he suspects. The pastor and his wife Lillian—known to their parishioners as Pa and Ma—have used religion to bilk hundreds of innocent people out of their life savings. Starring Sir Ben Kingsley (Schindler’s List), Jimmi Simpson (Westworld), and Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook). Premieres June 2nd on EPIX.
American Princess
Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City
Inspired by the books of Armistead Maupin, the new Netflix Limited Series Tales of the City begins a new chapter in the beloved story. Mary Ann returns to present-day San Francisco and is reunited with her adopted daughter Shawna and ex-husband Brian, twenty years after leaving them behind to pursue her career. Starring Laura Linney (The Big C), Ellen Page (The Umbrella Academy), and Paul Gross (Due South). Premieres June 7th on Netflix.
The Chef Show
In The Chef Show actor/director Jon Favreau and award-winning Chef Roy Choi reunite after their critically acclaimed film Chef to embark on a new adventure. The two friends experiment with their favourite recipes and techniques, baking, cooking, exploring and collaborating with some of the biggest names in the entertainment and culinary world. Guests include Gwyneth Paltrow, Bill Burr, Robert Downey Jr, and Tom Holland. Premieres June 7th on Netflix.
Jinn
Set in modern day Amman, Jinn follows a group of Arab teenagers as their friendships and budding romances are tested when they unknowingly invite the supernatural forces of jinn into their world. As the lines between good and evil blur, can the friends find the answers needed in order to save everything? Premieres June 13th on Netflix.
Jett
World-class thief Daisy “Jett” Kowalski is fresh out of prison and she is forced back into doing what she does best, and a cast of morally ambivalent, dangerous and eccentric criminals, from budding femme fatales to compromised law enforcers, are determined to exploit her skills for their own ends. Starring Carla Gugino (The Haunting of Hill House), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), and Michael Aronov (The Americans). Premieres June 14th on Cinemax.
Too Old To Die Young
In Too Old To Die Young, Miles Teller plays Martin, a cop who is grieving after the murder of his partner. In the aftermath, Martin and his partner’s killer both become involved in a violent, dreamy (and no doubt relentlessly primary colour-soaked) world of Yakuza, cartel assassins and Russian mobsters. Starring Miles Teller (Spectacular Now), Jena Malone (The Neon Demon), and William “Billy” Baldwin (Backdraft). Premieres June 14th on Amazon Prime Video.
Euphoria
Euphoria is an American adaptation of an Israeli show of the same name, and it follows a group of high school students as they navigate love and friendships in a world of drugs, sex, trauma and social media, the series will be executive produced by Drake, along with manager Future the Prince. Starring Zendaya (The Greatest Showman), Maude Apatow (Girls), Jacob Elordi (The Kissing Booth),and Sydney Sweeney (Sharp Objects). Premieres June 16th on HBO.
City On A Hill
In the early 1990s, Boston was rife with violent criminals emboldened by local law enforcement agencies in which corruption and racism was the norm – and then it all changed in what was called the “Boston Miracle.” In this fictional account, assistant district attorney Decourcy Ward comes from Brooklyn and forms an unlikely alliance with a corrupt yet venerated FBI veteran, Jackie Rohr. Starring Kevin Bacon (The Following), Aldis Hodge (Straight Outta Compton), Jonathan Tucker (Westworld), Mark O’Brien (Halt and Catch Fire), and Amanda Clayton (NCIS: New Orleans). Premieres June 16th on Showtime.

Mr. Iglesias
On this new Netflix multi-camera series, Gabriel Iglesias plays a good-natured public high school teacher who works at his alma mater. He takes on teaching gifted but misfit kids to not only save them from being “counseled out” by a bully bureaucrat Assistant Principal (Oscar Nuñez), but also to help them unlock their full potential. Premieres June 21st on Netflix.
Reef Break

The Rook

This seven-part limited series based on a bestselling book is about Roger Ailes, the founder of Fox News. To understand the events that led to the rise of the modern Republican party, one must understand Ailes. Focusing primarily on the past decade in which Ailes arguably became the party’s de facto leader, the series also touches on defining events in Ailes’ life, including his experiences with world leaders that gave birth to his political career, and the sexual harassment accusations and settlements that brought his Fox News reign to an end.
