The first look at the television adaption of Deborah Harkness’ best-selling All Souls Trilogy is here with the release of images and a sneak peek teaser!
“Some people still believe in witches, that magic is real,” says Teresa Palmer’s (Hacksaw Ridge) Diana Bishop in the A Discovery of Witches teaser. The series follows a history professor who is a powerful witch at Oxford named Diana. She’s trying to suppress her magic until she meets Matthew Clairmont, a handsome geneticist and mysterious vampire, who is played by Matthew Goode. The pair begin developing their relationship while investigating a strange manuscript found in the University of Oxford’s Bodleian Library.
The series comes from Sky One, where the series will be released internationally and in the first footage, we see Diana’s first meeting with Matthew in the Bodleian library, a mist-filled rowing scene, and a glorious sighting of Matthew.
The cast also includes Alex Kingston (Doctor Who) as Diana’s witchy aunt Sarah Bishop, Valarie Pettiford (The Blacklist) as Sarah’s partner Emily (Em) Mather, Lindsey Duncan (The Leftovers) as Matthew’s vampiric mother Ysabeau, Tanya Moodie (Sherlock) as a daemon Agatha Wilson, Daniel Ezra (BBC’s Undercover) as daemon Nathaniel Wilson, Edward Bluemel (House Finch) as vampire Marcus, and Freddie Thorpe (Overdrive) as new character for the series Matthieu Beny.
Bad Wolf Productions, headed up by former Doctor Who producers Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner, are behind this adaption of Harkness’ novel, with Mr Selfridge, The Forsyte Saga and Bancroft screenwriter Kate Brooke penning the script.
Catch a peek of the upcoming series in Sky’s Now & Next trailer, along with peeks at Benedict Cumberbatchs’ Patrick Melrose and Roman drama Britannia starring David Morrissey and Kelly Reilly.
The series will premiere in 2018.
