Admittedly I am late to the party and have just finished season 10 for the first time. And as you experienced, I may change some of my opinions upon further viewings. But I was not a big fan of most of the writing for this season. Reading your analysis has offered some validation to my feelings and context for why this season is the way it is. I didn't know this season was partially meant for newer viewers, which offers better context for the simpler episodes than the writing is bad. I wasn't a fan of the Extremis/Monk storyline, but as you pointed out, it didn't have a satisfying ending and that may be a significant reason it didn't hit for me. Doctor Who has more often had complicated conflicts to the point where I have to rewatch 2 or 3 times in order to fully understand it, so the simplicity of this larger plotline ending nicely alongside simpler standalone episodes was especially unsatisfying. I also had a problem with the blindness plotline. Aside from the weird "he's impaired for a minute and then it's okay again" vibe, which as a disabled person felt pretty gross, I have a hard time believing that a time lord who regenerates parts of both himself and others at the drop of a hat in other seasons can't resolve a biology issue such as blindness. Those aspects took away from my enjoyment of that plot element, and likely from the Extremis/Monk plotline as a whole.

Bill Potts was hands down the best part of the whole season. I am deeply saddened that we won't get multiple seasons with her. And my favorite episode by far was Knock Knock. For me, that episode felt the most like other Doctor Who episodes that have resonated with me and have me watching them over and over. The last two episodes were also more satisfying than the rest of the season. I agree with your assessment, "the story arc following Missy’s redemption ... tops the “Who is Missy?” arc of Series 8, and the “What is the hybrid?” arc of series 9." Considering this and the fact that I dislike Clara probably more than any other companion, Season 10 may end up being my favorite Capaldi season, despite bothering me enough to find this article and comment on it now.
