The first season started strong, which is why we keep watching. Mystery, a vanished boy, a dead boy from the 1980s, it was catching and we binged.

From season two, there was a steep decline, and season three was just a joke… So boring and far too much telling instead of showing. The characters are so underdeveloped that you literally don’t care if they live or die, the whole Mikkel mystery storyline is dropped and there are just WAY TOO MANY characters and sub plots to give depth to the characters. Every episode has the same structure:
Someone wakes up full frontal from a dream. An off screen voice rambles about time/fate/death, about two thirds in there is a weird song to which everyone’s walking in slow motion, looking weirdly at someone or something, or being nostalgic. EVERY EFFING EPISODE!

The third season brings sub plots no one’s interested in and that don’t support the story, everyone’s just saying “the knot needs to be upheld” or “we need to destroy the knot”, “there is shadow and there is light” or “the beginning is the end and the end is the beginning”. Then in the last episode we had a twenty minute explanation from Claudia why everything’s the way it is instead of using the effing screen time to SHOW us. Show don’t tell is one of the most fundamental rules in writing… Which clearly they don’t know. The storyline falls apart immediately, logic goes out of the window “I had to relive the loop so I could become who I am today, blablabla” but WHY??

In the end, we played Bingo with the following categories:
Jonas looks stupid
Jonas says “What’s that supposed to mean?” (Was soll das heißen)
Martha cries and heaves
Hanna does something mean
Katharina and Ulrich act like idiots
Someone warbles about time and fate
Der Anfang ist das Ende und das Ende ist der Anfang.

Worst TV show I’ve watched in a long time.
