Dark Times In ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ Trailer

October promises dark and spooky, and Netflix is doing just that with the official trailer for their upcoming original series, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

From the executive producer of Riverdale, the new series imagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. Tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature — half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit. Sabrina’s character will be hunted by the demonic Madam Satan and the Church of Night’s high priest, Father Blackwood, while at the same time she has to try to manage being a normal high school student.

In the fantastic and thrilling trailer, the new series looks to be an interesting one as it contains some humour and fun, but also plenty of darkness with its focus on dark magic. We see glimpses of each character that resides in the town if Greendale, including our heroine Sabrina, her aunt Hilda and Zelda (although Zelda buries Hilda at one point), Sabrina’s beau Harvey Kinkle, the Weird Sisters who will be taking Sabrina under the wing and showing her the dark side, and Mary Wardell—Sabrina’s favourite teacher, but when she’s possessed, she becomes Madam Satan…

If you’re as excited for the series as we are, be sure to check out its original source material! The series is based on the comics created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who is the executive producer of Riverdale and now also Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. While the series will have some changes, you’ll still get a great idea as to what you can expect since the series is going dark.

Starring Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men) as Sabrina, Ross Lynch (Austin & Ally) as Harvey Kinkle, Michelle Gomez (Doctor Who) as Madam Satan, Lucy Davis (Wonder Woman) and Miranda Otto (The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers) as Hilda and Zelda Spellman, Richard Coyle (The Collection) as Father Blackwood, Chance Perdomo (Midsomer Murders) as Sabrina’s cousin Ambrose, and Tati Gabrielle (The 100) as her rival Prudence.

The 10-episode season will hit Netflix October 26th internationally. And have no fear little witches, the series has already got the greenlight for a second 10-episode season.
