It’s time to head to school! While Sabrina is already a student at Baxter High, she will also begin her schooling at the Academy of Unseen Arts where all the young witches and warlocks learn about their craft. However, just like any school, Sabrina has to face off with the mean girls who are set out to torment her, and naturally, there’s a good-looking guy that’s got his eyes on our teenage witch.
During the previous episode, Sabrina faced a trial for abandoning her Dark Baptism and it also dragged Hilda and Zelda into it with their powers stripped. Eventually, Sabrina must enrol in the Academy. Meanwhile, Roz and Susie battle the principal when they discover banned books; Ambrose happens across another warlock; and Harvey tries to face his fears when it comes to the mines.
Academy of Unseen Arts
Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) has to lie to Harvey (Ross Lynch) and her friends as she has to attend the Academy for three days for her induction. While talking to Ambrose (Chance Perdomo), Sabrina says her mission is to learn how to summon, bind, and banish the Dark Lord. Good luck to you girl. She walks along the train tracks until she arrives at an abandoned station where a young boy named Quentin allows her to enter the Academy.
She’s greeted by Father Blackwood (Richard Coyle) and upon receiving her schedule, she heads for choir practice, which is run by Blackwood’s wife. After singing a few verses to find her placement, it seems Sabrina will be Prudence’s (Tati Gabrielle) competition. During lunch, Nicholas Scratch, or Nick (Gavin Leatherwood), introduces himself and sits with her. He has been reading her father’s notebooks, which are considered dangerous texts because he was well ahead of his time.
Sabrina wakes to find herself in the Witch’s Cell and it’s time for a little hazing from the Weird Sisters and she must endure what other witches did. At one point she screams, causing Salem at home to go racing and when the sisters check on her in the morning, they’re annoyed to see that she is fine. After talking to Harvey on the phone, Sabrina finds Salem gone and she starts a fight with Prudence. However, Blackwood has Salem and Zelda (Miranda Otto) wants Sabrina to be challenged further by placing her in conjuring. In order to do so, she must be tested with an arcane puzzle. Afterwards, Blackwood tells Zelda of his wife’s miscarriages and asks if she will be a midwife to her, much to her surprise.
Sabrina runs into Nick and learns he was involved with all three of the sisters at the same time, as their gifts include mind-control. He notices the puzzle and tells Sabrina her father designed it and Blackwood has been trying to solve for decades and it can be addictive. Meanwhile, Prudence brings in Wardwell’s crow, who was spying on them, but Blackwood tells Wardwell (Michelle Gomez) the Academy is his domain and perhaps she should focus on Sabrina’s loved ones.
A Little Mortal Time
Roz (Jaz Sinclair) and Susie (Lachlan Watson) have a sleepover and Susie explains that her uncle got sick after working the mines for Harvey’s father as he saw something. Roz tells Harvey about Susie’s uncle and he’s immediately intrigued. Harvey goes to see Uncle Jesse to find out if they saw the same thing, but he attacks Harvey and they are forced to knock him out. When they later check on him, he growls and cracks his body as if he is possessed.
And Time For A Date
Ambrose receives a call from Luke (Darren Mann), who wants to take him on a date and Ambrose plans to astral project with Hilda’s (Lucy Davis) help. However, she says it’s too dangerous. But after comments from Zelda, Hilda is all for it.
Hilda and Ambrose begin the astral projection and Hilda has to leave his body when Wardwell comes knocking. Hilda leaves her to check on Ambrose, who is just meeting with Luke, but he needs to be leaving otherwise he will be in danger. When asked what the craziest thing he has done, Ambrose says he was arrested for attempting to blow up the Vatican. Meanwhile, Wardwell collects hair, nails, and clothing, but Zelda comes home and asks her to leave. Ambrose is struggling to stay and he is forced to leave, and Zelda is angered by their actions.
Sisters At It Again
The Sisters try again with Sabrina and take her on the path the Greendale Thirteen took on their way to be hanged. They leave her there to stand in front of a tree until dawn, and she mustn’t turn around, except she begins to hear her loved ones voices who try to coax her.
In the morning, Quentin tells Sabrina she can return and she learns he is actually a ghost, along with many others. With that, she calls Hilda and Zelda for help as they’ve been harrowed to death. They meet with Blackwood to put a stop to Sabrina being harrowed, and she then introduces them to the children. Hilda believes they want revenge, and Zelda later apologises to Hilda for harrowing Hilda too much. The sisters come back for more, this time with a noose around Sabrina’s neck, and she tries to convince them to stop. Unfortunately they continue so Sabrina calls on the ghosts who begin chanting “light as a feather, stiff as a board”. Sabrina says no more harrowing will be tolerated while the sisters hang in the air choking. Blackwood is royally pissed that Sabrina bested the sisters, but Blackwood is all for Sabrina suffering a little.
Nick sneaks one of Sabrina’s dad’s journals out of the library so she can get to know her father at least. Later on, Sabrina notices something in the journal, and it helps her solve the arcane puzzle, which causes a disfigured person to emerge in the house.
Overall Thoughts?
We continue to learn more about the magic within the story, such as Ambrose astral projecting and Sabrina getting the ghosts to help her with the Weird Sisters. It was also incredibly interesting being introduced to the Academy, which contrasted significantly with Baxter High.
