Guest post by Fall For Him author Andie Burke
Andie Burke writes books with queer kissing and happily ever afters. She was originally an English major who decided to jump into a pediatric nursing career. Her writing is inspired by over a decade spent working in hospitals with patients of all ages. After the last couple years spent in the pandemic ER, she escaped to an outpatient pediatric sedation unit. Andie lives in a blue house in Maryland with an alarming number of books and an embarrassing number of ultra-fine point pens. When she’s not writing, she’s probably feeding snacks to the two small human creatures who live with her or trying not to kill her chaotic houseplants. You can find her on Bookstagram adding to her ever-expanding TBR or letting her ADHD brain happily dissociate while listening to Taylor Swift.
About Fall For Him: In Fall for Him by Andie Burke, seven-hundred-fifty square feet isn’t enough for the home-renovation-fueled hatred and the building sexual tension. Fall for Him combines banter, hijinks, and heart in a story of finding out what it means to fix things after your life crumbles.
If your life is anything like mine post-covid, time has become utterly meaningless, and yet I seem to have less of it than ever. When I sit down to watch something, I might not have time for a full-length movie, but this time of year I crave sweet, spicy, and spooky fall vibes on my small screen. So, here’s a curated list of single, standalone(ish) tv episodes recommendations based on what you plan to drink this autumn.
Coffee so black you’re hoping to stave off the existential dread from the US election:
Are you utterly terrified about the future? Watch Doctor Who Series 3: Episode 10: “Blink,” and you’ll be terrified of something else entirely. This episode features the incomparable Carey Mulligan early in her career facing a veeery scary thing (no spoilers). The scary thing will be fictional, but the lingering fear sure won’t be.
“Autumn Sangria”
Oh, mystery of mysteries. If you order this, you’re comfortable with the unknown. You don’t know exactly what will be in it or what it will taste like, but you, brave soul, are ready to try anyway. Thus, I suspect you’re a romantic but you could be looking for love in all the wrong places this autumn. Watch The Last of Us Season 1 Episode 3: “Long, Long Time.” You will find the most beautiful representation of true love, and the only slight downside is there also happens to be a zombie apocalypse happening. Minor details. Runner up: Fleabag Season 2 Ep 1: Fall in deeply love with a hot priest. Honestly, the experience will be only slightly less scary than the zombies.
Hot Toddy with Kentucky Bourbon
You still can’t kick that summer cold, can you? Is it covid? Is it allergies? Is it the bubonic plague? No one knows at this point. Anyway, you should watch Parks and Rec Season 3: Episode 2: “Flu Season.” The one-liners and laughter will be a midwestern balm to whatever ails you. Runner up: Community Season 2 Episode 6: “Epidemiology” If you really enjoyed the zombies in my above rec.
Venti PSL with a triple shot of espresso
Please for the love of GOD see a cardiologist soon. You are already too worried about all the places you will need to travel to during the holidays. You have several notebooks full of lists and a google calendar with so many appointments the app seems tired when you open it. You should watch Gilmore Girl Season 3 Episode 9 “A Deep-Fried Korean Thanksgiving.” My advice going forward? Just embrace the chaos, my friend.
Those Orange Pumpkin IPAs with jack o’lanterns on the label
Listen, I’m not a beer drinker but something about IPAs recalls the often misguided male confidence of Detective Jake Peralta played by Andy Samberg. Brooklyn-99: Season 1 Episode 6 “Halloween” There are costumes, hijinks, and the kind of mayhem I hope your friends prevent you from committing after three or more of those IPAs.
A Negroni Spaglioto with…you know where this is going:
Are you queer and sad? Do you want to be queer-er and sadder this fall? Watch the dark brit sci-fi series Black Mirror Season 3 Episode 4 “San Junipero.” It might not be actually set in the fall but will certainly leave you haunted. I might have sobbed my eyes out and moved up a few notches on the Kinsey scale.
Thematic Pinterest-Inspired Punch at a Halloween Party
No one knows what’s in it, but it sure is acid green. You are daring and whimsical and willing to take risks for a good time. You’ll enjoy the camp of a late 90s tv show without mocking the questionable special effects or dated elements. Watch Charmed: Season 3 Episode 4 “All Halliwell’s Eve.” I remember this episode being a dramatic hoot. And if that punch is spiked, you’ll be one too.
Full-bodied Red Wine you aerate, sniff, and swirl before imbibing
[Can you tell I know a lot about wine?] I suspect you might take yourself too seriously sometimes. Watch What We Do In The Shadows Season 1 Episode 1 “Pilot.” Yes…. There are vampires, but no they don’t sparkle. Pay special attention to the character Colin.
Thank you so much for reading! I hope you have a terrific fall full of all the happy memories, vibey libations, and fun times curled up on your couch. Cheers!
