“Once, the world was full of wonder, but it belongs to humans now. We have all but disappeared.”
Prepare yourself for some serious chills as SkyOne has released the official trailer for the television adaptation of the best-selling series, A Discovery of Witches!
Based on the best-selling All Souls trilogy by Deborah Harkness, A Discovery of Witches is a contemporary love story set in our world, but one which humans share with the declining species of witches, vampires and daemons – creatures existing and working amongst us, but hiding, unknown to most humans, in plain sight.
Teresa Palmer plays brilliant academic and historian Diana Bishop, a reluctant witch denying her heritage. The discovery of a manuscript in Oxford’s Bodleian Library throws her into the heart of a dangerous mystery and into the path of enigmatic geneticist Matthew Clairmont played by Matthew Goode, an ancient vampire hiding dark family secrets. As Diana and Matthew embark on a journey to understand the significance of the mysterious manuscript and as their relationship develops and their heritage comes in to play, events threaten to unravel the fragile peace that has long existed between humans, witches, vampires and daemons.
The official trailer is everything we hoped for—it’s dark, mysterious, and just a little bit sexy. With stunning narration by Matthew Goode, we are treated to many visuals of the great array of characters from the books, including Matthew’s mother Ysabeau and Diana’s aunts Sarah and Emily. The trailer is also filled with some stunning shots of the series’ setting in Oxford, Diana gradually discovering her powers, and of course, the blossoming relationship between Matthew and Diana while explaining how the covenant forbids interspecies relationships. Because what’s better than a romance that shouldn’t happen!?
Starring Teresa Palmer (Hacksaw Ridge) as Diana Bishop, Matthew Goode (The Good Wife) as Matthew Clairmont, Alex Kingston (Doctor Who) as Diana’s witchy aunt Sarah Bishop, Valarie Pettiford (The Blacklist) as Sarah’s partner Emily (Em) Mather, Lindsey Duncan (The Leftovers) as Matthew’s vampiric mother Ysabeau, Tanya Moodie (Sherlock) as a daemon Agatha Wilson, Daniel Ezra (BBC’s Undercover) as daemon Nathaniel Wilson, Edward Bluemel (House Finch) as vampire Marcus, Owen Teale (Game of Thrones) as Peter Knox, and Freddie Thorpe (Overdrive) as a new character for the series, Matthieu Beny.
