100 Thoughts While Reading ‘Kingdom of Ash’

It’s here! After 7 books of suspense, tears, laughter, sass, and kicking ass fighting, we have sadly come to the final book in the Throne of Glass series. Picking up this book is a rush of excitement and dread, but it is 980 pages of pure awesomeness just waiting to be devoured. However, there is also the unavoidable truth that when you finish the book it will really be over. So for this momentous occasion I thought it would be best to record a couple (just a mere hundred) of my thoughts in my head and ones I exclaimed aloud! Hopefully you can relate or get some entertainment out of my pain! Enjoy!

1. I’m already crying.
2. Everyone is still alive after two months. That’s a good start.
3. Rowan just needs his bae.
4. Don’t you dare lay a finger on Aelin or I will burn you with my fury.
5. Everyone is so moody…
6. Rip up your shirt for loin cloths. Elide is always worth it.
7. Please find her soon so you can have your adorable children. Feyre and Rhysand’s son needs to meet your daughter so there can be a cross-over.
8. Chaol! Long time, no see. Lots to catch up on. The world is coming to an end.
9. At least one couple is semi happy.
10. A baby on the way! This is not going to end well.
11. Let’s follow the spider. Great last words.
12. Maeve you need a better hobby beside torture. Have you considered competitive scrabble?
13. HE IS COMING!
14. YOU DO NOT YIELD!
15. You smash that coffin!
16. *weird sound in distance* Aelin is that you?
17. This is why you should listen to Elide.
18. I would happily have Dorian as moral support any day.
19. At least one of Manon’s relatives is semi decent and doesn’t want to kill her.
20. I killed a pretty big spider today as well. Though it wasn’t Valg.
21. Good old Manon x Dorian smut. Always coming in at the best moments.
22. When in doubt steal an army.
23. Chaol is in da house.
24. All who do not like Chaol’s dad and hopes he falls in a ditch say ‘I’.
25. Story time with crazy Aunt Maeve.
26. There is a thin line between stupidity and bravery Elide.
27. Abraxos has more of a love life than Manon.
28. Why is there so much tension in the air?
29. *Hey there pretty brown eyes, whatcha doing later tonight?* plays in background as I fall in love with Dorian all over again.
30. Can you actually melt a person? If so, I volunteer Cairns as trial tribute.
31. I’m not sure if these are tears of joy or pain.
32. THEY FOUND EACH OTHER!
33. She took away the scars?!
34. Blood oaths save lives.
35. Dorian can turn into a bird. Maybe him and Rowan can go for a cruise some time when the world isn’t ending.
36. He is your mate and don’t you forget it.
37. Aelin can heat up my pool any day.
38. Queen Aelin Forever.
39. Cute matching wedding rings.
40. MANON CARES.
41. Aelin and Rowan are FINALLY having a well-deserved D&M.
42. I think I needed this kiss more than they did

44. I missed everyone’s banter so much.
45. Fenrys is most definitely the President of the ‘I hate Lorcan Club’.
46. Everyone loves blood oaths in this book.
47. Manon should do motivational speeches more often. Maybe people will like her more.
48. Inn keepers cannot make porridge which is very sad.
49. Almost as sad as Aelin’s nightmares. She needs a therapist or a relaxing hobby like knitting.
50. If they keep doing this communication blinking thing people will start to think something is wrong with their eyes.
51. How many times do I have to blink to say ‘my heart is breaking. I need the whole gang back together NOW’?
52. Aelin better be the one walking through them flaps.
53. Witches have a device that turns lots of people into ash all at once. That’s good.
54. Girl knows how to make an entrance.
55. They’re hugging, she’s laughing, and I’m crying.
56. I love how Chaol and Aelin are introducing their spouses. Like ‘yeah I know there’s a war going on and all, but I got hitched!’
57. Cat’s out of the bag. Maeve is a Valg, which really isn’t a surprise.
58. You better keep them promises Aedion. I need that wedding.
59. It would have been a favour to everyone if you had cut off Darrow’s head
60. They are talking about the future and the baby. Nothing better happen to them.
61. Is it wishful thinking to hope everyone comes out of this alive in the end?
62. Sassy sarcastic Aelin is the best.
63. She just shut Chaols dad doooown.
64. Dorian as a female is one of the best thing I have read in this series so far.
65. TELL HIM TO STAY!
66. Manon Crochan Queen of Witches had a nice ring to it.
67. I was going to comment that we’re halfway through and no one is in too much peril yet. But Lorcan most definitely got stabbed in the stanchions and is now dead.
68. Okay not dead just yet. Elide said so. Well, more like forcefully yelled
69. This moment is too sweet. Dorian is going to leave her alone in the morning isn’t he… yep.
70. Well at least Elide and Lorcan are happy.……………………………………………
71. Why go to Morath when you know there is a very high chance of death?
72. Are you okay Dorian… you just proposed to Maeve. I ask again. ARE YOU OK?
73. Gavriel is now Chaol’s adoptive father.
74. Dorian and Maeve would make a good team if she weren’t evil.
75. Anyone that doesn’t like Dorian can fight me. He just outsmarted Maeve. A trap within a trap.
76. Lysandra > everyone.
77. The likelihood of getting stabbed in battle is apparently very high.
78. They have eucalyptus. Does that mean they have a country just like Australia?
79. Dorian and Aelin will always find each other.
80. Don’t even think about dying Abraxos. I need both you and Fleetfoot to survive.
81. So um.. The Thirteen just sacrificed themselves and all self-combusted into light and blew up the tower.
82. Well-deserved bro hug and ugly tears of happiness. Dorian x Chaol 4ever.
83. We are all fighting about who wants to sacrifice themselves. There is a long line.
84. We’ll end this how we started this and we’ll rebuild this world together.
85. You’re not supposed to be here dad.
86. You don’t need to sacrifice yourself to save the world.
87. Rowan tattooed her a way out. A way back to him. I am most definitely about to cry.
88. SHE WOULD NOT GO QUIETLY. SHE WAS NOT AFRAID.
89. DID SARAH JUST MAKE A REFERENCE TO ACOTAR? SHE MOST CERTAINLY DID!!! I SEE YOU RHYSAND!
90. A Fire-Bringer no more. But Aelin all the same.
91. I need more Lysandra and Aedion smut. I love them so much.
92. They finally made it to the battle. Took you long enough
93. Gavriel is dead. But he died for his son
94. Life-Giver World-Maker.
95. Dorian and Yrene are carranam. I repeat DORIAN AND YRENE ARE CARRANAM.
96. The king’s name was Dorian and he only remember once when he held his baby. That’s deep bro.
97. We won. Yrene pretty much saved the day… while pregnant. Only one person died. A+ for effort.
98. The spin-off will be about how they are all reignite together and learn embroidery so they can make the ugliest rug.
99. Rowan can bring me cakes and chocolates anytime. Now would be preferable.
100. I’m smiling and crying happy tears. It’s all so perfect.

To try to sum up this entire book in a few sentences is hard because of how dense and thoroughly spectacularly written it is. Every loose string was tied up perfectly; the transition from each scene was clear even though it went through multiple characters POV and you didn’t feel like you missed out on a second of the action. Sarah did an amazing job with the final conclusion. This book will always be worth rereading as it shows what a final book should be: epic, flawless, and hopeful.
